Whizz kid who is a real boy racer

A SPEEDY youngster has left older kids in his wheeltracks by racing to indoor karting trophies.

Ten-year-old Jack Williams took third place overall and a Rookie of the Year award at the end of the 2004 Daytona InKart Championship.

Jack, who has been competing for only a year, is following in the footsteps of dad Andrew - a one-time Monte Carlo Rally competitor.

Fantastic

Andrew, from Stalybridge, said: "He now practises twice a week in his own kart at the Daytona indoor facility in Manchester.

"They have a Formula One championship over nine months, with races once a month.

"I have spent a lot of money this year but, in all fairness, he's got two fantastic trophies and has another half-dozen for either winning or coming second on the day."

The whizz kids, who are aged between nine and 14 in the cadet event, race in petrol-powered vehicles at the Old Trafford-based circuit at speeds approaching 30mph.

Andrew said his son's achievements were due reward for his performances last year.
