Yobs stole wheelie bin and set it alight on golf course

Firefighters had to fill buckets from a stream to fight a fire at Altrincham Golf Club.

Yobs had stolen a wheelie bin and rolled it onto the side of the 12th hole's fairway before setting it alight on Thursday evening.

Whitewatch from Altrincham station were called but the fire engine could not park near enough to the bin for the hose reels to stretch.

No damage was caused to the course, which is off Stockport Road, Timperley.

Watch manager Stuart Renshaw said: "There was no chance of doing it with the hose but there was a brook nearby so we used the old fashion method of bucket and water."
