ANTI-PIRACY campaigns by the Hollywood movie industry looks to have paid off after the closure of a leading peer to peer website.

Having targeted the P2P music sector in a high-profile campaign in recent years, now the entertainment industry is bringing its guns to bear on online movie piracy.

And as a result the Suprnova.org, one of the most famous and prolific P2P filesharing sites on the BitTorrent network, is thought to have closed.

BitTorrent operates by allowing users to share files, with sites such as Suprnova offering a link to the files rather than actually hosting it themselves.

Software, music, games, films and TV programmes are all regularly shared by enthusiasts of the BitTorrent network.

However, the Motion Picture Associaion of America has started targeting servers hosting BitTorrent links - rather than individual users - in an effort to stamp out internet piracy of new films.

And after filing 100 lawsuits against BitTorrent server sites, their efforts seem to be paying off with a number of torrent websites - most notably Suprnova.org - closing their doors.
