Northern Rail staff strip off for charity calendar

Nine women and three men from Northern Rail ditched their uniforms to pose nude on station platforms and raise thousands for the Bernardo’s children’s charity.

Brave train staff have bared all – for the perfect ‘model’ railway calendar.

Nine women and three men from Northern Rail ditched their uniforms to pose nude on station platforms and raise thousands for the Bernardo’s children’s charity.

The group, who have been branded the ‘cheeky chuffers’, shunted traditional fundraising efforts into the sidings to strip-off.

But their timetabling plans went awry when a train packed with passengers pulled into the station where they were posing naked.

Miss July, Maggie Whitaker, who works in the firm’s safety department, said: “We were having a photo shoot on the platform when the train arrived. It was hilarious. It was great fun doing the calendar. We all had a laugh and it was all for a good cause.”

Maggie, 41, from Bolton, and colleague Emma Hind, from York, have taken part in a number of fund-raising challenges for charities in the past, but were determined to go the extra mile this time.

The pair enlisted ten workmates based at the firm’s offices and stations in Greater Manchester and North Yorkshire.

The calendar is expected to prove popular with railway staff and passengers across the region. It costs £7.95 and is available on eBay.

Maggie added: “The naked calendar seemed a good way to get people involved, to raise a few eyebrows and hopefully lots of money in the process.

“Our models have been fantastic. Some of them refuse even to bare their arms in the office.

“For them to bare all for the calendar was a real challenge, but one they were willing to do.”

She added: “We’re expecting a few funny comments from colleagues, but its all for a good cause and we hope we’ll raise lots of money.”

I know its for a good cause but the novelty must have worn off with these calanders. Well done to the lassies but I think another approach needs taking now when fund raising.

"For them to bare all for the calendar was a real challenge" - for Northern Rail so is running a decent rail company.
