A schoolboy achieved glowing GCSE results despite nursing his dying mother through cancer.
Shivi Saggar discovered he had achieved straight A*s in all 10 subjects just days after mum Anu lost her battle with bone cancer. Shivi, from Cheadle Hulme, got the stunning grades after helping his mum cope with chemotherapy.
Anu, 41, lost her fight for life on August 4 – just weeks before she could see her son, a pupil at Manchester Grammar School, receive his grades.
Shivi, 16, said he intends to become a doctor in his mum’s honour after witnessing the care she received from hospital staff.
He said: “I now feel that medicine and helping those who are suffering is my true vocation and I will be pursuing a medical career in memory of my mother.
“It was very difficult not to have your mum around. You realise just how much your mum does for you and how integral she is to every element of your life when she is not there. But she was incredibly supportive and told me to go and do my very best for her and to make her proud.”
Anu was diagnosed with cancer in early 2009 and spent much of the last year in hospital.
Dad Ash, a company director, said: “She will be looking down on us today and will be very, very proud, as she was of all her children.
“She was the bravest person I knew and I know she wanted to live as long as possible, particularly to help Shivi get through his exams. Her strength will continue to help us all get through. Anu lived for her children, devoting herself to them in the most loving and caring way possible.”
Shivi, who has two sisters Keshika, 19, and Khushali, seven, intends to study biology, physics, chemistry, maths and French at the independent school’s sixth form.
High master Christopher Ray said: “Shivi is an immensely talented young man. His determination to make his mum proud is testament to a wonderful upbringing.”

You're a credit to your Mother, she lives on in you, now good luck with the further studies you want to do and see if you can focus your obvious positive energy into helping find a cure or treatment for cancers, that would be a fitting tribute to your mothers memory.
