An injured duckling who was rescued by a cat has set up home in a pub.
Abandoned with a broken leg, little Bertie the two-day-old duckling was carried into the Ring O’ Bells in Marple in the jaws of the pub cat Jet.
Landlords Anita and Mark Singleton rushed the hobbling bird to the vets who revealed he had a broken leg, an injury which is thought to have led to his mum abandoning him.
Anita explained: “She came into the bedroom and I heard squeaking, I thought it was a mouse. I looked at the floor and there was this yellow thing.”
Bertie is now making a recovery with pins fitted to his leg but is not yet well enough to be released to the wild.
And he appears to have no intention of flying his new nest, entertaining customers, taking canal boat rides and cuddling up to Anita.
Anita said: “I think he thinks he’s human.
“When I walk away from him he starts crying, he thinks I’m his mum.
“We also take him on our canal barge, Mark will steer and I’ll sit with Bertie who will quack at the other ducks.
“The customers love him and all the children bring their mums and dads to have a look at him.”
As for his feline rescuer, the couple say she views the duck with a mixture of jealousy and apprehension.
Mark said: “Now the duck’s as big as the cat, the cat’s frightened of him as he does do the pecking thing. She’ll just sit and watch him from the landing.”

Wonderful story. Animals are so amusing. Lovely pub as well.
Wonderful. What a "quacking" story.
oh what a sweet little ducky story
M.E.N wont let me make any jokes about crispy duck
good story , makes a change than reading about nasty little people killing and thieving off each other
The duck is definitely not 'quackers'...
I know a pub cat who bit the ducks head off.
And they renamed the pub "The Ducks Head"
Heartwarming. what a lovely story.
That's one gentle cat you have there, Anita and Mark! I had to smile at him being wary of Bertie's beak now. :-)
I wouldn't have been surprised if the cat was thinking of giving it to the chef, with a request . . .

Jet must be thinking " No good turn goes unpunished "...
The cat may have broken the ducklings leg when it possibly attacked it and then carried the duckling to the pub. Its possible!!
