Residents report nasty smell in Sale

Residents in Sale reported a nasty smell across the town on Tuesday evening.

The cause of the stench - likened to the smell of manure or sewage - was not clear. The MEN received several calls enquiriing about the smell and Twitter users also reported the unpleasant aroma.

Barry Evans wrote on his Twitter account: "There's a very odd smell lingering around Sale tonight. Anyone order 15 tonnes of horse manure?"

And Helen Roadhouse wrote: "Very baaaad smell in Sale." The smell had lifted by Wednesday morning but there were other reports that it may have moved to Chorlton.

Greater Manchester Police and the fire brigade both said there no incidents which may have been linked to the smell.

Me too. I once pulled on wellies, donned a pitchfork and took the sheep dog out. Imagine my surprise when I remembered where I was...

It was awful, hung really thick in the air all night so I couldn't have any windows open. We were plagued by swarms of flies in Sale last year to the point where local supermarkets were selling out of fly spray, wonder if they'll follow again now.

Proper Sentences.... must you insult the people of Wythenshawe for no good reason? I can only presume that where you come from the crime rate is zero and that everyone has a masters degree!

So sorry it was me. I had a bit of a dicky stomach yesterday but I still went out for a ruby.
I nearly collapsed of the toilet when I realised what I unleashed on the world.

I heard that the water board were treating a sanitation plant and some sort of pressure has been created from the waste which had backed up blowing out a mains feed sending the smell back through all the drainage system, covering 10 square miles of sewerage pipes.

Thats the smell of your own poo folks!

Money gone off in Sale Residents wallets, they are the meanest people in South Manchester so I read in a survey recently carried out, they supposed to clean their windows with hosepipes rather than pay £5 to a window cleaner..

What Mickey Mouse survey is this? Almost everyone in my street has a window cleaner - very nice chap who comes fortnightly and only charges £3 - you're being done at £5 a go

IT WAS ME. I had a vindaloo and a few cans of ale

I strongly suspect this odour is related to the recent rash of UFO sightings. The smell, I suspect, is coming from the exhaust pipe of the craft and is probably cancer-causing.

People of Sale -

STAY INDOORS. THERE IS NO NEED TO PANIC!...............YET
