Over 1,000 expected at anti-terror camp

Over a 1,000 youngsters are expected to attend the UK's first ever anti-extremism camp.

The event is being organised by Minhaj-ul-Quran UK, whose founder member Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri made headlines earlier this year when he also issued a 600-page fatwa against terrorism.

The weekend’s three-day conference, 'al Hidayah 2010' will explain Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri’s fatwa to over a thousand ordinary young British Muslims as well as training them to recognise Islamist extremism in their own communities and giving them the theological tools to tackle it themselves.

It will be the first time so many young British Muslims will gather for a conference specifically against Islamist extremism.

Speaking ahead of the conference, Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri said: "I have announced an intellectual and spiritual war against extremism and terrorism. I believe this is the time for moderate Islamic scholars who believe in peace to stand up."

Shahid Mursaleen, spokesman of Minhaj-ul-Quran UK, said: "This is the first anti-terror camp of its kind and I believe this will change the concepts of many Muslim youth who will learn directly from the scholar who issued the fatwa on terrorism. It will be a severe blow to extremist groups in the UK."

A spokesman from anti-extremism think tank, Quilliam Foundation added: "When Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri released his fatwa against terrorism earlier this year, people asked how he would get this message to the people who most need to hear it.

"This weekend provides the answer: a three-day event at which major, genuinely moderate Islamic scholars will train 1,300 young British Muslims to recognise and tackle Islamist extremism.

"This event will give young Muslims the confidence and the theological tools to go back to their own communities across the UK and root out the virus of extremism and intolerance."

The conference will take place between 7-9 August at the University of Warwick’s main campus near Coventry.

We must commend Dr Tahi-ul- qudri for his brave work, sadly its a shame its taken so long for some one in the muslim community to come out with what the rest of the population in this country has known for a long time, there is no place for a medieval religion in modern day britain and Islam needs a reformation, it needs more people like the good doctor to speak out and not make excuses, there are no excuses for murdering innocents or for being intolarant to any other life style that gos against certain narrow out looks.

this is the most corrupt group going around in england.i would recommend everyone to stay away and not go.these people do not convey the real message of islam.if you do want to learn the real values of a muslim then i would recommend you go to your local mosque and meet the imam or scholars.you will surely learn more off them.this group will show great hospitality but in return they expect you to be brainwashed about nonsence.

Almost all children now believe they go to school to pass exams. The idea that they may be there for an education is irrelevant. State schools have become exam factories, interested only in A to C Grades. They do not educate children. Exam results do not reflect a candidate’s innate ability. Employers have moaned for years that too many employees cannot read or write properly. According to a survey, school-leavers and even graduates lack basic literacy and numeracy skills. More and more companies are having to provide remedial training to new staff, who can’t write clear instructions, do simple maths, or solve problems. Both graduates and school-leavers were also criticised for their sloppy time-keeping, ignorance of basic customer service and lack of self-discipline.

Bilingual Muslims children have a right, as much as any other faith group, to be taught their culture, languages and faith alongside a mainstream curriculum. More faith schools will be opened under sweeping reforms of the education system in England. There is a dire need for the growth of state funded Muslim schools to meet the growing needs and demands of the Muslim parents and children. Now the time has come that parents and community should take over the running of their local schools. Parent-run schools will give the diversity, the choice and the competition that the wealthy have in the private sector. Parents can perform a better job than the Local Authority because parents have a genuine vested interest. The Local Authority simply cannot be trusted.

The British Government is planning to make it easier to schools to “opt out” from the Local Authorities. Muslim children in state schools feel isolated and confused about who they are. This can cause dissatisfaction and lead them into criminality, and the lack of a true understanding of Islam can ultimately make them more susceptible to the teachings of fundamentalists like Christians during the middle ages and Jews in recent times in Palestine. Fundamentalism is nothing to do with Islam and Muslim; you are either a Muslim or a non-Muslim.

There are hundreds of state primary and secondary schools where Muslim pupils are in majority. In my opinion all such schools may be opted out to become Muslim Academies. This mean the Muslim children will get a decent education. Muslim schools turned out balanced citizens, more tolerant of others and less likely to succumb to criminality or extremism. Muslim schools give young people confidence in who they are and an understanding of Islam’s teaching of tolerance and respect which prepares them for a positive and fulfilling role in society. Muslim schools are attractive to Muslim parents because they have better discipline and teaching Islamic values. Children like discipline, structure and boundaries. Bilingual Muslim children need Bilingual Muslim teachers as role models during their developmental periods, who understand their needs and demands.

None of the British Muslims convicted following the riots in Bradford and Oldham in 2001 or any of those linked to the London bombings had been to Islamic schools. An American Think Tank studied the educational back ground of 300 Jihadists; none of them were educated in Pakistani Madrasas. They were all Western educated by non-Muslim teachers. Bilingual Muslim children need bilingual Muslim teachers as role models. A Cambridge University study found that single-sex classes could make a big difference for boys. They perform better in single-sex classes. The research is promising because male students in the study saw noticeable gains in the grades. The study confirms the Islamic notion that academic achievement is better in single-sex classes.

torres, you are exactly what is wrong with certain part of the muslim community, anyone who thinks out side of the box is a threat and must be suppressed, and driven under ground, thank goodness we live in a open democacy and good luck to this humane and kind man...

This guy - Tahir Ul-Qadri should be put on the same level as the Taliban. The only difference is he's got a few of the British Government ministers under his belt and is the current darling of the Establishment. Take notice, this is the same guy who wants to convert rest of this country to his radical islamic ideology.

Dear Editor

The media has recently given substantial coverage to a little known Islamic organisation’s efforts to denounce terrorism at a summer camp at University of Warwick. It is being billed as the UK's first summer camp against terrorism. While I laud this effort for peace, promoting this as the first of its kind is factually incorrect.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has been holding a much larger convention for the past 44 years in which all forms of terrorism and violent Jihad are denounced. This year almost 30,000 Muslims of the Ahmadiyya Community gathered for three days last week at Alton, Hampshire to promote peace, discard violence and continue to instil love of one’s country into their hearts.

The event commenced with the raising of the Flag of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community simultaneously with the Union Jack as a symbol of the Community’s commitment and loyalty to the United Kingdom. This was done in compliance with the instruction of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) who taught that love of one’s nation is part of one’s faith.

It is very unfortunate that such a large gathering is consistently being under-reported by the media even though this community has been established in UK for eighty years.

The effort at Warwick University, while a noble effort, is being viewed by many as ‘too little too late’. Many young Muslims in this country have already been radicalised over many years. In contrast the youth Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association, the youth wing of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community UK has been holding its convention for decades with around 2,000 Muslim youth of UK attending. They pronounce their love and dedication for this country, vow to remain at peace with everyone while promoting the true teachings of Islam.

The scarce media coverage of the Ahmadiyya events highlights one of the many difficulties UK Muslims face in presenting the true face of Islam and reaching out to all UK citizens as a tolerant people who want to integrate and live in peace.

Earlier while leading the Friday prayers, the Worldwide Leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, took the opportunity to speak about the true Islam, which is so often misrepresented in the media. His Holiness said Islam was a religion of peace, tolerance and mutual love and was based upon a love of God Almighty. This love was the reason why so many people had travelled so far, at great difficulty to take part in the event.

The Ahmadiyya Movement was established in 1889 by Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as), with the objective to rejuvenate Islamic moral and spiritual values. It encourages interfaith dialogue, and diligently defends Islam and tries to correct misunderstandings about Islam in the West. It advocates peace, tolerance, love and understanding among followers of different faiths. It firmly believes in and acts upon the Qur’anic teaching: “There is no compulsion in religion” (Chapter 2 Verse 257).

The Community strongly rejects violence and terrorism in any form and for any reason and operates under the motto; “Love for All, Hatred for None.” Followers attend the Annual Conference, or ‘Jalsa’, to further improve their knowledge, spirituality and were able to listen to speeches about the role of religion in contemporary society and the misrepresentation of true Islam in the modern world throughout the weekend.

Dear Friends, I am a little surprised as to why this is being portrayed as an event which is the first of its kind. The impression might be that the Muslim Community is doing "too little, too late", but this is not the case.

9 days ago, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community held its 44th such conference in which all forms of terrorism were denounced and proved to be against teachings of Islam.

The attendance for this event was over 30,000! Not only this, but the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has been categorically rejecting all forms of terrorism using the Quran and teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad pbuh to support its views.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community also holds peace symposiums throughout the country, throughout the year, where true teaching of Islam are given. Again this has been happening for many years.

I would humbly urge you to show the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community's effort because this community has always been at the forefront of peace. It is recognized by its work for humanity throughout the world and its members are among the most peace abiding and loyal citizens. It has membership of over 150 million around the world and is the only Muslim community with a central spiritual leader.

Currently the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is carrying out 2 campaigns to deliver the true, peaceful message of Islam:

1- by giving a leaflet to every single house in the UK about the peaceful and true message of Islam.
2- Bus Campaign, which states Muslims for loyalty, freedom and peace.

You can see the work we have been doing and the background of our community on these websites. Thank you

exactly...me thinks the western governments who love 'spreading democracy' through terrorism should be placed in a camp too, to rid them of the superirority complexes, and woman and child murdering mentality they all possess.....

......along with all the intolerant racist bigots in the west...pick them out and place them in anti-extremism camps too.....why is it that their extremism and lack of tolerance for other cultures and beliefs isn't discussed in mass media and acted upon??

Salman & Tauseef

You spread a true message of Islam??

How do you figure that when you should know Muhammad (PBUH) was the seal of the prophets and yet you choose to believe there was another after him...you're not Muslims so why not just rename yourselves Ahmaddiyah Association.

Drop a leaflet through my door and i'll be using it as toilet paper!

Dear Readers.
The role of media in empasising this event has been outstandingly biased.
Ahmadiyyah Muslim Association (AMA) had the privillage to build the first ever mosque in the whole Europe (Southfields London). AMA has the privillage to build the largest mosque in Europe (Morden London). AMA had privillage to raise the slogan of Love For All Hatred For None in all ups and downs. But media has always kept it hidden from the eyes of public. AMA memebers have strong roots and a very respectable position in this community as well as all accross the globe. AMA has been among the leaders to promote peace and harmony in all societies and among all nations or religions fromt he platform of Islam. BUT despite all that the media has always kept shut. but now a cleric whose initial teachings have always been supporting the terrorist ideology is being given importance.. There is surely something fishy.. AMA holds conferences every year and the average of attendees have always been more that 20,000 but the campaign of minhaj-ul-quran is being given a title as first ever anti-terror campaign... this is completely wrong

I write in connection with the recent media article on 7th August, 2010, about an anti-terrorism conference held by a Muslim group called Minhaj ul –Quran at University of Warwick with expected attendance of about 1000 people. This gathering was wrongly referred as the first of its type.
As much as I appreciate the good intentions of the media in throwing light on such an effort, I would like to raise the awareness that the Minhaj ul –Quran event would actually not be the first of its kind by a Muslim group in the United Kingdom.
As a matter of fact, a 3 day event of a bigger scale, with almost 30,000 participants, had already ended at Oaklands Farm, Alton, Hampshire, on 1st August 2010, in which the true message of Islam was exhibited with absolute condemnation of violence and terrorism in any form. This event was the 44th annual international conference of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association, UK.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Association was established by Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) in 1889 under divine guidance, with the objective to restore the true Islamic teachings. The community champions the cause of clearing misunderstanding about Islam in the west. It firmly believes in the Quranic injuction:’’There is no compulsion in religion’’ (Chapter 2 verse 257). The community is a chief advocate for peace, tolerance, love and understanding among followers of different faiths, and operates under the slogan ‘’ Love for All Hatred for None’’.
The largely unreported event of this conference of the Ahmadiyya movement really highlights some of the difficulties faced by UK Muslims in their effort to showcase the undiluted message of Islam as brought by the Holy Prophet Muhammed (saw).
I would therefore use this opportunity to urge the media to do more in the coverage of such Muslim gatherings in reaching out to all UK citizens as a tolerant people who want to integrate and live in peace.

Dr Tahir ul Qadri the 'moderate' with anti-terrorism fatwa actually stipulates death penalty for Ahmadiyya Muslims;

<blockquote>
For three days from November 14 to 17, 1985 Dr Qadri presented his arguments continuously before the Federal Sharia Court of Pakistan to determine the quantum of punishment to be awarded to a person guilty of contempt of the finality of the Holy Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him), an extremely delicate legal matter.

He established, on evidence from the Quran and Sunna, that a person guilty of contempt of the finality of the Holy Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him) deserved death sentence and the punishment will be imposed as Hadd.

The act of contempt of the finality of the Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him) is a crime, which cannot be tolerated whether its commission is direct or indirect, intentional or un-intentional. The crime is so sanguine that even his repentance cannot exempt him from the penalty of death. Dr Qadri placed a massive array of arguments before the learned Court and particularly stressed the point that no lacuna should be allowed in the legal structure of an Islamic state to encourage this form of sacrilege.

Obviously since the not so good doctor has moved to west he needs to package himself in a way that sells well here.

Islamic schools or masrasses in Pakistan are not stoking miltancy or extremism. An American Think Tank studied the educational back ground of 300 Jihadists; none of them were educated in Pakistani Madrasas. They were all Western educated by non-Muslim teachers.

Each and every Muslim is considered as terrorist by the British Establishment and British media. Even Muslim schools have been regarded as Osma bin Laden Academies by one of the Teacher's organisation because British teaching profession is a chicken racist and non-Muslim monolingual teachers are not role models for bilingual Muslim children. Two Muslim schools were accused by the leader of the Tory party as training ground for terrorist and the LA was wrong to fund those two Muslim schools. But after few days, he apologised for his dirty remarks. In my opinion, each and every Muslim child should be in a state funded Muslim schools. There are hundreds of state and church schools where Muslim children are in majority. They should be "opted out" as Muslim Academies so that Muslim children could develop Islamic, cultural and linguistic identities.

A true Muslim believes Mohammad (PBUH) to be the last of the prophets as written and finalised...thats me. You Ahmaddiyas insult that so i have no problem with insulting you.

You obviously don't believe Mohammad (PBUH) was the last prophet, so in the true form of Islam, where does that leave you?

Report This Reply

An Ahmadi truly believes in the Oneness of Allah and bears witness that Mohammed (pbuh) is the Last Law Bearing Prophet who brought the Last Religion on earth (Islam) and the Last Book of God (Holy Qur'an) as a mercy from Allah for all of Mankind. However, in the latter days, there will appear a Messiah as prophecised by the Holy Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) who, when Islam will be in an extreme decline, will revive the Holy Religion just like how Jesus (Peace be on Him) came to revive the Religion of Moses (Peace be on Him). We Ahmadis, therefore, firmly believe that the Messiah (Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmed) has already come who created a very peace-loving community known as the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community who practice the true teachings of the Holy Qur'an and the Holy Prophet Mohammed (pbuh).

This discussion could go on for a long period and I am aware many people will have a lot of questions to ask. Please feel free to visit our website at www.alislam.org or watch MTA on SKY channel 787.

It's just a matter of searching for the truth and the seeker could only find the truth when he/she begins his/her search with a pure heart and mind. Please think deeply as to how the so-called Mullahs across the world are presenting Islam and the way the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community presents the beautiful Islam with their words and actions.

Many Thanks/JazakAllah
