Wayne Rooney in hot water over 'spending a penny'

Onlookers said Rooney, 24, wandered through the city-centre streets with friends singing football songs. He eventually clambered into a taxi, along with wife Coleen, at around 5.30am.
Wayne Rooney has been shown the yellow card by council bosses after he was caught on camera apparently urinating outside a nightclub.

The pictures showed the millionaire United striker as he appeared to be relieving himself against a bin outside the trendy Panacea venue on Manchester’s John Dalton Street.

He was also seen with a cigarette in his mouth – something that will not go down well with United’s no-nonsense boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

Pat Karney, Manchester council’s city centre spokesman, reacted with dismay to Rooney’s behaviour, which allegedly happened on Saturday night and in the early hours of Sunday.

He has promised to write to the player, who failed to hit the net for England at this summer’s World Cup, and revealed that if he repeats the offence he could find himself in hot water under tough new rules likely to soon come into force.

Coun Karney said: “I will be writing to him to point out that we are introducing a bylaw that will see people who urinate on our streets prosecuted.

“I would not want to embarrass him by taking him to court.”

Spokespeople for Rooney and United declined to comment.

What do you expect? The white pele...Hilarious. Why wasn't he at home looking after his family. Oh I know-because he isn't in the real world and obviously pays a nanny!

What with Anderson being dragged from a crashed car after a night out in Portugal we now have Rooney urinating in the early hours of the morning on the streets of Manchester where it was noticed that he had a cigarette in his mouth; what a pair of excellent role models these two are for our youngsters. And a message for Pat Karney, you don't need tough new rules for this offence as it is an arrestable offence called sexual exposure.

lovinthebanter: Are you suggesting that it's in any way acceptable to urinate in the street?

Obviously he is the first person with a kid to go out, this has never happened before.

Apparently I do not live in "the real world" either, as I occasionally go for a night out while a grandparent looks after my child. I've a feeling millions of other people have done the same.

As for the rest, it's a shame Rooney does not consider the poor example he sets to others. Our city reeks of urine and I personally would take him to court for it, there is no need for such behaviour.

It IS ILLEGAL to urinate in public....so why another bylaw ?

I doubt if this law is properly enforced and with most PC's being men they probably sympathise with the men doing it and let them off.!

Yes, but you would want to embarrass him by leaking such a story to the press, Councillor Karney. Anything to be anti-United, eh. Anything to get your name in the papers.

I suppose he aimed at the wall and missed

He does a lot for charity and should be allowed to pee when and where he wants.

Maybe if the council provided decent facilities then people wouldn't need to use the streets as urinals.

Acceptable, may be not, is it sometimes neccesary, yes.

When you've gotta go - you've gotta go.

Its Pat Karney who should be embarrassed, that our city has so few toilets available to use.

As for embarrassing Rooney though - well it South Africa didn't do it then taking a leak in the street wont

Like any poorly trained pet he should be neutered to stop him marking his territory. Sadly hasn't been done early enough though.

Times must be tough for him if he can't even afford 20p for a public toilet.

Take him to court like veryone else.

I wonder if his behaviour will be curtailed by a minimum price on alcohol?

Thank god for that unelected quango, the AGMA and their illegal ideas.

There is no excuse for this conduct and loutish behaviour from what is supposed to be a professional athlete. I wait to see if Fergie will deal a la Whiteside and McGrath.
Ship him out Fergie.
