As a child, one of his most enduring memories is seeing the haunting black and white pictures of Myra Hindley and Ian Brady on the front cover of a book perched on a shelf at the top of the stairs at his family home.
Now a 35-year-old detective constable in Greater Manchester's Force Major Incident Team, he is one of the officers working on the Moors Murders case.
Dave is part of new team of young officers whose job it is to continue the 40-year-old murder investigation. It was set up and briefed on the intricacies of the case when senior officers realised that all those who originally worked on it were retiring.
The aim, above all else, is to find the body of Keith (pictured above) to bring some comfort to his mum Winnie and brother Alan.
Brady and Hindley were never charged in relation to Keith's death or that of Pauline Reade because the Crown Prosecution Service did not think it was in the public interest. Hindley died at the end of 2002.
Dave said: "Over the years, there have been numerous searches by the police, academics and others. It was my job to plot which areas of land have been searched so far and keep the map up to date, so that if any new information comes in we can evaluate it.
"We follow up every piece of new information and the case will not be closed until we find Keith's body."
