FILM-MAKERS are inviting critics of the controversial B of the Bang sculpture outside the City of Manchester Stadium to air their views in a documentary.
Researchers want to know how residents feel about all the issues surrounding the sculpture.
Visitors to
www.eastserve.com website forum, where the '1.4m steel structure has been criticised, have been asked to contribute. The film will show the work from its start, through its construction to its delivery to the stadium.
It will also cover the controversial issues, including costs, which have run beyond budget and led to '100,000 of council tax being used to plug a cash gap.
The film, which has been commissioned by New East Manchester Ltd regeneration agency, is intended to show both sides of the story and let the viewers decide whether it has been a worthwhile investment.
Producers say they will welcome all opinions including those from people who want to comment but do not wish to appear in the filming. The makers are particularly interested in hearing from people whose views have changed since the Bang arrived.
Tom Russell, chief executive of New East Manchester, said: "New East Manchester has asked a group of local film makers to record the construction of B of the Bang.
"The group are looking for residents to help them make a short film about B of the Bang's impact. The sculpture's designer, Thomas Heatherwick, and New East Manchester, the commissioners of the sculpture, will also be contributing."
Copies of the film on CD might be made available to residents and on Eastserve. It will be on the Community Channel and used locally as an education aid.

This monstrosity is a waste of my taxes, its looks really really crap. who wants a rusty pointy thing that will probably fall over in an earthquake.
Why was it built, who is in
charge of the money for this project, i would be much better at that job. 1 look at the plans and NO is the answer needed. pull it down. or paint.
Why did we need it, the stadium looks good enough, i am really annoyed that my money that could have gone on filling in pot holes in roads has gone to such a stupid cause.
Dear Reader,
I am aware that:
Pornography is here to stay...
On the increase in every way.
[Congratulations to Land of the Karmer Sootrer.]
I may well sound like a boring old pale-skined english middle-class 'goody-goody' for considering Pornography - and any sex-scene on Cinema and telly - to be dangerous.
So then...
Keep it up (if you'll excuse the pun) - and don't 'innocent' children just love it!
Porno films and mags do seem to have the habit of (even just slightly) getting into the hands and vision or 'innocent' children - I was young once!
Still, Film Producer...
You have enough power... you do what you like.
Pornography: keep it up (excuse the pun) - dond kids just love it... I was young once!
