MOST parents of university graduates would have urged their children to travel abroad or learn a trade with hindsight, according to a "shock" new poll today.
Fewer than one-in-four of 1,700 parents surveyed believed their sons or daughters were intellectually stimulated by going on to higher education.
A significant proportion of parents were not impressed with the way their children turned out after going to university, the poll for airline easyJet found.
One-in-seven said their children drank or smoked too much after going to university, one-in-10 said they had become lazy and a quarter said higher education had made no difference to their child's character.
The airline described the findings as a shock and said they sent a warning shot to parents of children poised to go to university.
