DIXONS took the controversial computer game Manhunt off its shelves today after the parents of a murdered schoolboy blamed the violent game for their son's death.
Warren Leblanc, 17, of Leicester, yesterday pleaded guilty to the murder of Warren Pakeerah, 14, in February this year.
Leblanc savagely beat his friend with a claw hammer and stabbed him repeatedly after luring him to a local park.
Leicester Crown Court heard that Leblanc had planned to rob Stefan.
Tragic
However, after the hearing, Stefan's mother and father claimed Leblanc had been obsessed by the game Manhunt in which players score bonus points for making their slayings more violent.
A spokesman for the Dixons Group, which includes Currys and PC World, said: "In light of the tragic events, we are taking this game off the shelves with immediate effect.
"We believe that immediate withdrawal of the game is the appropriate step in the circumstances.
"We are doing so in consultation with the manufacturer."

Credit to Dixons though, for taking a step in the right direction.

I think people should start realising that some people are just plain strange and censoring things just won't make any difference. There has always been horrific and disturbing murders and attacks, but Computer games, video's, DVD's and Hip Hop have only been around for the past 20 years, so who was to blame before? It's easy to blame the parents, and in most cases they are to blame, but I have met parents in the past who were excellent, but their off spring are complete nutters. We need to wake up to the fact that we can't change these extreme situations. Unless you want to take away freedom.

People are looking in the wrong places to lay blame, look at Japan, they have much less censorship than we do and have an extremely lower violent crime rate than we do.
I've heard that they're blaming a load of other games like Unreal Tournament and Doom as well...what a joke! Now perhaps we should point fingers at Quentin Tarantino and Stephen King!
If you're going to ban violent video games, then while you're at it ban violent movies, violent TV shows, violent books (including the Bible of all things, that has loads of violence in it). If anything, violent games are going to act as a release rather than something to make a person violent.
Face it, video games/music/movies don't turn kids into killers, personally I'd suggest looking at their environment, upbringing and mental/social state. Are people seriously thinking that this kid wouldn't have stabbed the victim had he NOT played Manhunt?
Lets not have what happened in post-Columbine America happen over here...its just stupid.

This ganme has an 18cert, and while i agree that we are afected by many things, movies , tv news, street violence, and including games, those affected will be influnced by anything they witness.
Its a society/psychological problem.... not a video game problem.
