Trafford council has approved plans for a regeneration of Old Trafford cricket ground which could see test matches return to the venue.
The plans include a massive regeneration which is hoped to bring test cricket back to the Old Trafford ground and a massive Tesco superstore, which has angered residents fearing it will kill off surrounding shops.
A rival bid by Derwent Holdings for a supermarket at White City was rejected by planners.
Gerard Carney, spokesman for Derwent Holdings, which was behind a rival bid to develop a supermarket at White City said: "It is unfortunate that the matter will have to be referred to the secretary of state to rectify today's inappropriate decision, which has been reached for political, rather than planning, reasons.
"Needless to say, we are disappointed with this decision and are very optimistic that an appeal will be successful."

Let us not forget the proposal by the owners of White City, Derwent Holdings, who have also pledged support of the cricket club - the main difference being Derwent Holdings have the money ready to hand over in a process that does not require the sale of land owned by Stretford High School, itself being turned into an academy twice the size to be neighbours now with a collossal Tesco. What does this say for the safety of our children??
I, along with countless other local residents, have opposed this development strenuously and will continue to do so - the fight is not over.

All of you who have commented in favour of this will not and do not live in such close proximity to the propsed build. The delivery enterance will be so close to the houses at the end of the road. that we will be able to hear lorrys all day every day. these house have been here for 100 years and they are now slowly being dwarfed. The councul have also aproved a 14 story Hotel on Warwick Road. This small community of residential houses have to put up with all sorts the council do not care. its all about the money for them and sod the local residents its supposed to represent.
I for one am extreamly angry
