A man has been jailed for abusing a boy while giving him lessons in the Koran.
Atta Ur-Rehman, 38, was found guilty of a number of sex offences against the young victim.
Appearing at Bolton Crown Court , he was sentenced to six years in jail.
He attacked the boy at an address in Rochdale in May last year where he was supposed to be giving lessons in reading the Muslim holy book.
The boy, who was upset and embarrassed, told his mother about what happened.
Ur-Rehman – of Hearies Road, Sheffield – at first feigned ignorance when confronted by the parents, but then asked the boy's parents for forgiveness.
The boy's parents then called the police.
Detective Constable Kirsty Simcox, who investigated the case, said: "Ur-Rehman abused the trust the victim's parents placed in him in the most terrible way.
"The boy showed immense courage to confide in his mother, and thankfully his parents then came to the police to ensure justice could be done.”

I wonder however if Ur-Rehman feels that Sharia law would be appropriate in his case (probably means the victim is executed!) and that he should either be publicly whipped or stoned to death?

I was loathe to tell anyone as I didn't want my parents to know (they would have been furious). I was a very embarrassed young lad and certainly didn't want to involve the Police. The only way out of it was to stop going, and I did. So I gave up church at the age of 12. I couldn't go to any church as a youngster after those near-experiences.

What about sweet shop owner, teachers, friendly uncle? hahahaha is is just religious nuts we should be wary of?
Have you ever thought that some paedophile may have turned to religion because of their desires and despite this their desire got the best of them? Nah, it must be genetic! if you have faith, you must be a sicko!!!! hahahaaha

I think that there have been very few publicised cases of Paedophile sweetshop owners, nor teachers, however the number of Catholic priests who have been paedophiles across the world has been well documented. When the attitude of the church, turning a blind eye and smearing victims to protect assets it is deep rooted and more than just a few bad people sneaking their way in, to find a cover for their criminality.
This is not the first time that a teacher of the Koran has been found abusing children either.
If you actually read my post, and take the time to understand it (which you clearly haven't) you will see that I did not accuse every religious person of being a paedophile, but that we should start from a position where we consider that they might be. You might feel that this is unfair, but I feel that a childs innocence is more important than a religious persons automatic right to be seen as a 'good person' because very many of them plainly are not.

This makes no sense at all. We should consider that every person of religion could be a paedophile? Are you serious?
Just because a small percentage of Catholic priests have been caught you're willing to brush the lot with the same brush?
You're obviously one of the idiots the op-ed piece is talking about today.

I take it very seriously, i have 2 young children. I think your post is funny. It sounds like you yourself have had a bad experience from a man of the cloth.
You will find the more paedophiles work in Information Technology. This total would be biast as most paedophile are caught via their computers and I would assume you would have to know a fair bit about computers to try and visit padeophile rings on the net. Should we be wary of people who work in IT?
MY POINT is you can't judge someone because of their job or religious views in relations to their sexual preference! I am positive that in regards to religious people, the good outnumber the bad.

Very true Drew, however, I think a few of the comments are not related to the individual as such, but to the various religious establishments. They have all hidden, denied, turned a blind eye to and moved on members of the clergy who have been caught practicing these heinous acts in the past! It seems like many of our religious institutions care more about 'their appearance' than they do the behavior of the very people they ordain........

Drew Peacock? Do you get his name?
Dave_H (05/03/2010 at 15:11)
As usual on these forums, it pays to either read them, or at least get someone to explain what people have written. Just in case you still don't understand Neverindoubt, the man appears to been beaten prior to the mugshot being taken and everybody is applauding the fact.
Alternatively he may just be really ugly (but, as explained, the posters were not commenting on his looks).
Either way, you are thick.
