Man beaten in 'brutal' race attack

A MAN was assaulted by a gang in a brutal race attack.

The 21-year-old white victim was walking with his girlfriend on Clarkes Lane, Rochdale, when they were approached by a large group of Asian teenagers.

The group began attacked the couple while shouting vile abuse. Although the 17-year-old girl managed to struggle free, her boyfriend was repeatedly punched and kicked. He suffered a fractured ankle and injuries to his nose and face.

The gang were aged between 16-20. One of the attackers was an older, slim youth, 5ft 8 ins, with short black hair and pointy chin and nose.

The attack was around 8pm on Monday, November 2nd and police have issued an appeal for information now after a two-month investigation failed to track down those responsible.

Det Sgt Andrew Butterworth, of Rochdale CID, said: "The beating this man received was brutal and those responsible should be ashamed of themselves for behaving like a pack of animals.

Anyone with information is being urged to call detectives 0161 856 4644 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

This must be the first time such a racial attack as happened in this country, I have never seen one reported before,...must be a miss print.

Thats because the victim was white .Its only normally Racist when its a non white person who has been attacked .

Until the punishment fits the crime ,this will continue .

Lizard, this is a growing trend and has been reported several times last year in this paper, in parts of london asian attacks on whites out way all other race hate crimes, thay will blame the war in iraq, but to be honest one race is just as xenophobic as the rest, and a lone man is an easy target.

I think the cynicism of Lizard is well placed, attacks like this are rarely reported, and never reported by the extreme left leaning BBC. It's highly unlikely that the Useless Brigade will be allowed to charge anyone in connection with this, because it's just not PC. The reason it's been left for so long is probably because there has been pressure applied for the Useless lot to actually appear like they're doing something.

Perhaps the question should be why was this not reported as soon as it happened, after all we're very used to seeing it immediately reported when it's the other way around.

It would be interesting to know what % of racial attacks are committed by whites and what % by ethnic minorities.
I believe whites are now the victims in the majority of attacks, with young out of control Asian youths doing the attacking.
I hope these cowards are found and jailed.

If it had been a single Asian male attacked by a group of whie males it would have been front page news all over the BBC with statement made by various "representatives" of the community critising the police and the white population in general. Its taken 2 months for this story to come to light and attacks on white persons only help the BNP.

While the UK has turned into a very nasty violent society, multicultrulism along with political correctness and turning a blind eye by the Goverment and police and censorship in the media to what is really going on, has made things far worse for all of us. It's too late now the damage has been done, even if a far right party came to power.

Or we could just do what those who lean to the left do and deny that it is happening and and focus on something else.

I really do despair, i would never dream of voting for parties such as the BNP but having no go areas in towns in places like Rochdale and Oldham based on the colour of your skin is taking the mick and people wonder why there are these knee jerk reactions and with support for the far right..

what a bunch of cowardly pigs to do this to a poor young couple. this is the way these operate a large gang beating up often a lone male or as in this case a poor young man and his girlfriend they are nothing but animals behaving like this i hope they get caught but i doubt it they are often sheilded by freinds and family. i am surprised this has been reported as a race attack they are often not called race attacks and so many go unreported by the media.

What a sad state of affairs this country has come to. Witnesses could have been sought nearer the time of the crime.

Getting to the doctors in Glodwick is very dangerous. Many attacks in Oldham seem to be ignored. Its time the average minded person showed concern instead of the far right using the occasional attack to boost before local elections

I have no desire whatsoever to stir up racial or religious hatred or intolerance - Rochdale is a multicultural melting pot and it is crucial that there is respect and understanding for all.

In the past, asian communities suffered terrible discrimination and violence from the NF and racist thugs looking for easy targets. This simplistic, stereotypical viewpoint is no longer correct- young British Asians - males in particular, are more confident and even aggressive. This is manifesting itself as street violence.

I have first hand knowledge of recent attacks that suggest much of this new, violent criminal activity is not being reported. Gangs of a clearly identifiable community are traveling to other areas in our town and openly threatening violence and committing acts of robbery. They appear to be targeting other ethnic groups and use racial epithets during their violent criminality. Attacks have occurred in Bamford (Clay Lane), Spotland and Greave estates.

Have these attacks been registered as racially motivated? If not, why not? Racially aggravated crime is wrong whoever are the victims and perpetrators.

Keeping quiet or covering up these crimes is dangerous, patronising and does all communities a disservice.
