A LOLLIPOP lady's 40 years of unstinting service has earned her an MBE.
Grandmother-of-two Heather Dalton Morris has seen generations of children grow up while helping them across Glebelands Road in Sale on their way to and from school.
Heather, 70, who lives with husband Bill and has two grown-up sons, began working as a lollipop lady in 1970 when the local police asked her to take on the role as a temporary measure for one week.
"I did it for a week, then a fortnight, then a month," said Heather.
"Then a payslip arrived - I'd thought it was voluntary!
"I've been there ever since and I love it."
Heather's MBE recognises her contributions to the community and education over so many years.
Now a well-known figure with parents and children in Sale, she has also used her expertise to train other school crossing wardens.
"I'm the first thing the children see on the way to school so I've got to have a smile for them and I can cheer them up on the way home if they've had a bad day as well," said Heather, who lives in Greenhill Avenue.

What about all thoses doctors and nurses that go that little bit extra we need to recocnise all those who stay a bit longer or give that bit extra ,lets recognise them.We hear a lot about the police and other services but very little about these great people .Ive just spent five weeks in hospital and i saw some of these people get very little respect for the very very hard work they do.
Any Tom, Dick or Harry seems to be awared an honour these days...
local lad is right there is a nurse/sister at blackpool general called helen who stayed with me long after she was paid., under strength and over worked the staff were wonderful.
they are not recognised.
To Local Lad; outsidethebox
Pick up thy bed and NOMINATE!!!!!!! Have a HEALTHY 2010 Best Wishes Fred Fielder M.B.E.
Who are these people? A lollipop lady?.........maybe my window cleaner should get a KFC or BSE or whatever they give out for going to work these days!
What the hell has Hytner been given a knighthood for? It's about time that well paid people were not given honours for simply doing their job!!
Jeez - some of you people make me want to chuck...
Damn, they missed me again.
Pat Karney should have got one, after all he has done remarkably well getting Manchester buzzing again since that awful bomb years ago. Maybe in the June birthday Honours Pat...
mrs dalton morris "the lollipop lady" definately deserves her mbe. she is the lollipop lady for my childrens primary school and was also there when i attended that school. no doubt in her 40 years of service she has endured troubles of her own but she is always there rain or shine with a smile and friendly words for the children, she adds to their day and is an integral part of our local community. her job is not highly paid with outrageous bonuses and yet she is there purely for the love of her job and in this day and age that is extrremely rare. more people like mrs dalton morris should receive these awards, especially those who quietly go about there work bringing a smile to those who they meet on their way.
David John Whatton. Chief Constable, Cheshire Police, he got a Queen’s police medal ir looks like Peter Fahy slipped up moving to Manchester.
My dad was in the St Johns ambulance from the age of 16 up untill he died at 67 all the neighbours used to bring their kids to him before thinking of getting an ambulance out. I remember at least one occasion when he literally brought someone back from the brink of death until professional help could get to them, He also saved 7 peoples lives in one go in the pacific during WW2 as well as countless others at Normandy beaches, he didn't receieve so much as a thank you from anyone official, in fact the episode in the pacific, he had to quickly show two others what to do so they could help, they each received medals, he didn't.
Now people like him would have deserved an MBE not someone for doing their job, that they are paid to do.
I see no-one was honoured from the sausage-making community (again!)
Im interested in the award to Kathleen Simpson for services to the community in Moston . What were these services and when ? Im also Kathleen Simpson and also have worked with young people in that area so Im interested in what my namesake has been doing there too. kathsimpson2@gmail.com
