A FILTHY food store has been fined £21,000 after insects were found inside packaged food.
Environmental health officers were called to SM Cash and Carry in Rusholme after a horrified customer found maggots in sponge slices.
The team later found the Indian meal moths inside bags of nuts, sultanas, and seeds.

They also uncovered mouse droppings on food andshelves as well as the floor filthy with dirt and crumbs.
The store was immediately closed for four days following the inspection in September for cleaning.
Manchester magistrates have now ordered the business to pay more than £21,000. in fine and cost.
Owners of the Birch Hall Lane store did not turn up for the hearing and were found guilty in their absence of multiple hygiene breaches.
Commenting on the case, Richard Cowell, the councillor in charge of the environment, said: “This shop was used by customers from across the region, who would have been horrified to discover the conditions we found there.”

OH MY GOD!!!!, this is a disgrace, shocking beyond words, this is not a third world country you must abide by the health and safety laws or face the punishment, we have to trust the shops we use when we buy food that thay arnt putting us at risk, and this is the second shocking food related scandel in that area in as many weeks (chinese anyone). The resturants and takeaways in that area are in this paper far to often for there selfish disregard for our well being, MCC should have a team that do nothing but police this area seven days a week to keep them on there toes. It will be a long time before I pop anywhere for a ethnic meal out! Thay need to clean up there act and get back there soiled reputations.

Talk about third world shops,i live in openshaw and over the last few years ive seen the third world type shop creep into the area.we have shops that represent a african/asian third world ,shops that open for a few weeks then change hands and look like a shop that needs a good cleaning .
Stopped eating on the curry mile years ago after getting food poisoning on one visit. Some of these places are filthy and do not belong in Manchester.

Well, I shop there weekly and have never been poisoned or seen these problems. Perhaps you find Indian insects inside the food because it comes from India.
Why don't I go to Asda, Tescos or one of the other shiny stores for my groceries? Because I like the profits to stay in my local community, I like the variety of stock, and I like the old-world courtesy of a business that talks to me and doesn't install impersonal diy check-outs like Sainsbury's.

Not so long ago, a man, who obviously had mental problems, was treated like a murderer, dragged through the courts, heavily find, The rooms of his house displayed across this site, and others, and HIS NAME DISPLAYED!, his crime?, allowing abandoned moggies to take up residence, they were not his cats but to the best of his ability/cost he fed them, his problem?.. He was overwhelmed by his neighbours feline donations. He was named and shamed for cruelty to animals when the fella obviously had great sympathy for them. And in splashing his address and details across the media made him/his property vunerable to every scum bag in the area.. congrats to M.E.N!.
Had he intentionally sold maggoty food from a shop with disregard to the health of human beings he would have enjoyed; The cash profits, been allowed to continue rolling out his poison even after insulting the courts by his absence, a photoless strip on this site and his name withheld.. A third world?, I dont know, a strange world.. for sure. Pity the R.S.P.C.A. were not involved, perhaps they would have dealt out appropriate punishment for cruelty to maggots.
