Gladys, when they realised they couldn't sell it to us as warming, they decided to simply call it Climate change, to cover all possibilities, Global wetting, Global drying, Global cooling, Global snowball (We've already had one of them, long before life on earth mind you.)

Because the cost of the occasional standstill is less than the cost of avoiding it. In countries which routinely get far worse snow, they have to pay to deal with it more thoroughly, otherwise they could be brought to a standstill for months.

I remember in the 50s snow was worse than this but there were very few cars, and all the people I knew lived within a 10 min walk to work.

Ahh, but you are forgetting, we don't send anyone to prison anymore we send them home to the naughty step with a slapped wrist and ask them not to do it again. There is noone in prison we could get to the work.
