A GANG of schoolchildren are being hunted by police after a woman was pinned against a wall and robbed.
The 21-year-old was targeted by a group of five girls and a boy as she walked along Fletcher Street in Bolton.
They stole her handbag and phone before two of the gang held her against a wall so she couldn't escape. But the robbers were thwarted by a passer-by who stopped the youngsters and returned the woman's property to her.
Police said the gang were wearing uniforms from the Essa Academy, one of Bolton's newest schools.
Pc Andrew Sharkey said: "Just because the offenders in the situation were very young does not mean it was any less frightening for the victim to be set upon. Fortunately, a very public-spirited person was on hand to make sure they did not get away with it.
"Incidents like this are rare and we are doing all we can to track down those responsible."
Witnesses to the theft on November 13 should call police on 0161 856 5660 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Not sufficiently public spirited to turn these thugs over to the law.
Young, or not, you commit "adult" crime you do "adult" time.
10 years will ensure these yobs won't do it again - and 10 years will ensure other would be thugs that it's not a good idea to 'do' crime.

Put the lads in pink overalls and have them scrub the shopping areas with a toothbrush - anyone caught not scrubbing hard enough or dilligently enough should them be stocked and buckets of rotting fruit and veg can be hurled at them by previous victims.
The girls should be clothed in very unflattering garments, their hair cut very short and given a similar difficult and embarrasing task such as cleaning out our public toilets.
Then make them parade around the town centre, chained together, for a day wearing notices suggesting that this is what will happen to others who are caught terrorising the neighbourhood.
I stongly suggest that this will be one "badge of honour" that they will not want to wear twice!
And just in case they re-offend - boot camp!
And support the public who intervene - had it been me, one would have been detained, by "reasonable force", long enough for a Police Officer to take in charge.

What a great shame.
