RE teacher Madeleine Martin, 39, was jailed for 32 months for having sex with a 15-year-old boy

A RELIGIOUS education teacher who had sex with a teenage boy has been jailed for 32 months.

Madeleine Martin, 39, pleaded guilty to 10 counts of causing a teenage boy to engage in sexual activity in February this year.

She was jailed at Minshull Street Crown Court, Manchester.

Martin - of Grassfield Way, Knutsford – qualified as a teacher in 2005 and met her victim in September 2008.

Networking

They began communicating on a networking website and in the following couple of months the contact between the two turned sexual.

The relationship lasted for a week before the boy decided he did not want to keep seeing Martin.

He eventually told his mother what had happened – and she called the police.

Justice

Detective Sergeant Dave Moores, of Greater Manchester Police, said: “Martin's actions will leave emotional scars on her victim and his family and have also impacted on the wider community.

“I would like to praise the bravery of the victim in speaking out and ensuring justice was done for him.

“I am satisfied that she has been given the sentence she deserves and hope this will send a strong message that this abusive behaviour will not be tolerated. Martin will also remain on the Sex Offenders' Register."

Is this real? What 15 year old boy would be considered a 'victim' if this were to happen to them? He didnt seem to mind, just his mum!

I find this amazing that if this was a man who had had sex with a 15 year old girl then the sentence would have been much longer. And especially someone in a position of trust as this woman was.

A man in the midlands in February this year was jailed for 4 and half years for having sex with a 14 year old girl.

So why the difference?

I m in agreement with Tezza - makes no difference whether its a man/woman attacking a child in this way. Should be the same sentence - a nice ten year stretch minimum should do it.

This lad knew what he was doing but then again so did she so I've no sympathy. However, had he been a few months older she wouldn't have been nick now!

It is irrelevant of it was a boy or girl. The fact is, is that a child was subjected to sexual abuse by an adult in a position of trust. Schoolboys/girls have their sexual fantases(of which does not help that their hormones are all over the place at such a young age)and no adult should take liberties and attempt to make childrens fantases into reality and if they do they have then commited a crime and are then a peadophile. Children look up to adults for guidence and security in life especially teachers and if this sick woman decides to abuse her power then it only too right that she should feel the full force of the law...... and if people think that boys want this sort of thing to happen to them. Then these people are as just as sick as this teacher in this case.

A very harsh sentence after all she did not harm anyone - no wonder theres no room in prison for violent offenders - those are the ones who should be going to jail

People want cannabis legalised when it causes mental health problems yet consentual sex has never led to mental health problems and she get's a prison sentence - something not right with how society thinks.

Sorry Careless Whisper but you are wrong. If you were right then all men are sick. I don't know many 15 year old lads who would not love to be seduced by an older woman. I know I would have done.

This is not a crime. This lad will probably be more scarred by knowing that telling his Mum sent his ex-bird to jail than by that one wonderful week he had with her.

most 15yr olds know what sex is and are well aware what the age of consent is, that doesnt mean to say the teacher is innocent but a sentence like that is a joke, violent criminals get away with it everyday of the week typical justice system

Careless Whisper, you're absolutely right that a woman or man in such a position of responsibility should not abuse children. But the posters you are talking about are fully aware and adamant about their own schoolboy desires at the age of 15. The question is "would they have sick as you say or just normal?" If the female teacher was attractive, then normal I'd say. It's called being red-blooded. Or should they have been brutally shamed and forced into ice-cold showers to cure them of such thoughts?

This is not about the boy, it's about the adult taking advantage of a not yet fully mature kid, whatever schoolboy fantasies are I think that 9 times out of 10 this kind of thing may seem fantastic to begin with for him but in the end it will cause damage.

Anything from bullying from other pupils up to having a child at an early age or like in this case having to go to court.

The boy finished it so obviously it couldn't have been that great.

You posters who seem to think that all 15 year old boys would like to be seduced by older women.......Hmmm? Would that still be the same if 15 year old boys was seduced by old men instead. My point being is that abuse is abuse hence whoever commits it......The law states that sexual activity with a child is against the law and that law is there to protect our children from perverts men or women.

I am surprised by everyone saying she should have a longer sentence. This sentence is more than harsh enough. She is going to be a complete mess when she is released and has already lost everything - her family, her friends, her career. Her life is in tatters for a foolish mistake at a time when she was under great emotional strain. She admitted her wrong doing, to avoid the boy having to go through a trial, and has been remorseful throughout. She is sorry for her mistake and her intentions were not malicious.
Furthermore, the boy was 15 which makes the case different from many in the news at the moment where those involved have been younger. Both sought comfort from their problems and found it in each other. From the reports I've read - and I've read many - there was nothing forced about the relationship and when they decided to end it - after a week - it ended. Whilst of course, Mrs Martin was in the wrong and neglected her role as a person of trust, the boy has no doubt suffered because of the media attention and the police involvement in what appears to have been a short relationship which ended on mutual grounds.
I am probably biased because I know Mrs Martin and have done for years. This incident is completely out of character and she has suffered endless since it all came to light. As such, this sentence is more than just punishment and claims that she should face the likes of a ten year sentence are ridiculous. There are far worse offenders out their who have been given lesser sentences than this...

Of Denton - of course Im not naive- just pointing that this lady has clearly broken the law - and is basically a peadophile. My children were teenagers once- and if this had happened to them - well i ll be press ganging the courts for more than a few years in prison I mean to say what sort of woman of this age wants to have intercourse with a 15 year old- regardless of the fact that its a boyhood fantasy. She broke the law clear and simple. And so what if she has lost everything - i'm not losing sleep over it. Or another view as rocketmanu has said a few months longer she wouldnt be in this mess. And again would everyone be voicing these views if it had been a man doing this to a 15 year old girl/boy.
