BOLTON funny man Peter Kay has smashed box office records at the Manchester Evening News Arena with his long awaited return to stand up comedy.
Originally four nights were scheduled for his Tour That Doesn’t Tour – Tour in April next year, but the frenzy for tickets forced the comedian and arena bosses to hastily add extra nights for fans to see one of Britain’s best loved comedians.
Now Kay will be taking up residency at the arena for an unprecedented 20 night run through April and May – with all 20 nights selling out within an hour of tickets going on sale to the general public.
Hundreds of fans queued up at the Arena since 6am this morning for tickets and the comedian even had 100 pasties delivered to the eager crowd.
General Manager of the M.E.N Arena, John Knight said: "We could have kept going, but there were just no other dates available at the arena to extend the run any further.
"The Tour That Doesn’t Tour – Tour is exclusive to the M.E.N Arena, and people are coming to Manchester from all over the country to see Peter Kay’s first live performances in 7 years."
Peter Kay said: "It really is hard to comprehend. I was apprehensive about going back on tour after such a long time, but the response has been completely overwhelming.
"I want to say thank you to everybody who has bought tickets and I promise to give them a crackin’ show. I might even don my old stewards jacket and show a few of them to their seats."
The 20 night run eclipses anything which the arena has seen in its 15 year history. The previous longest run by any act was Take That’s 11 nights in December 2007.

Also, why do ticketmaster have the monopoly on most concerts these days and why do they charge you for the privilage of printing the tickets off on your own printer? !!
I`m sure there are thousands of fans like me who are fed up of the whole concert situation.
The final straw today was within minutes of the tickets going on sale many have ended up on ebay for sale in excess of £100 each with many double/treble this figure.
As i understand it football tickets are banned from being sold on ebay so why do they allow concert tickets to be sold at sky highes prices which many of us cannot afford?

I then read your article saying the events, all 20 of them, sold out in an hour ! Amazing, I'm assuming each night's capacity will be approx 18000 so that's 360000 tickets up for grabs, let's assume that corporate and 'prawn sandwich' brigade will have already secured 25% of tickets before the general public get a' look in' so that leaves 270000 tickets, maximum of 8 tickets per person means if everyone who queued up took their full allocation 33750 people were lucky enough to get tickets, in an orderly queue each person has approx 3ft of space so 33750 people in an orderly queue stood two abreast gives a queue 28 miles long, I live 18 miles from the arena so if the queue had spread in my general direction I could have just popped outside my front door as the queue arrived and guaranteed myself the four tickets I wanted !
Excuse my cynicism but I can't help but feel that this is another 'stage managed' ticket sale that benefits nobody but ticketmaster, the corporate sponsors and of course the ticket touts. Should anyone want tickets they are available at Getmein.com (funnily enough a Ticketmaster company) starting at £100 plus for a seat up high at the back where supplementary oxygen is advisable. I personaly will wait for the DVD !

Excuse my cynicism but this is just another 'stage managed' ticket sale that benefits nobody but Ticketmaster, Corporate Sponsors and of course the good old ticket tout.
Tickets are available on e-bay and at Getmein.com (A Ticketmaster company surprise surprise!) starting at £100 for a seat in 'the gods' where supplementary oxygen is advisable.
I'll wait for the DVD !
