A TEENAGE yob with a history of convictions killed a man in a hit and run smash just hours after being released from a young offenders institute.
Asa Hunter was just 15 when he ploughed into Thomas Drane, 61, as he raced along a busy road in Gorton in a stolen car at up to 60mph.
He went on the run and was caught after being turned in by his mother.
Hunter pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving at Manchester Crown Court yesterday.
He was also convicted of assaults causing actual bodily harm and grievous bodily harm after driving into a group of people in Reddish after a minor row injuring two boys, while on bail for the hit-and run-crash.
The court heard that the fatal smash happened when Hunter, now 16, sped along Mount Road in a stolen Vauxhall Vectra, with three passengers including Thomas Ward, on April 11.
Ward, also now 16, pleaded with him to slow down before he hit Mr Drane, whose body was discovered 37 metres away.
The court heard how Hunter's violent criminal history dates back to when he was 11 and includes driving offences committed when he was just 12.
At the time of the hit and run Hunter was on licence after being released from the youth offenders institute and was in breach of an Asbo.
Despite not being able to legally drive he had also been banned from the road.
The court heard Hunter, originally from Gorton, had a total of 19 convictions for 49 offences since 2005.
They included car thefts, criminal damage, robbery and breach of an Asbo, for which he had spent several periods in youth detention.
Judge Anthony Hammond said there was a risk of Hunter killing again and ordered that he be locked up until authorities are confident he is no longer a danger.
He must serve at least three years before being considered for parole.
Ward - who stamped on a woman's head eight times during a carjacking in Hyde weeks after the death crash - admitted aggravated vehicle taking and assault at a previous hearing.
He was jailed for four-and-a-half years.
Mark Ford, defending, said his troubled young client, who had been brought up with virtually no guidance, did feel remorse.

The BNP gets more attractive every day to more and more borderline people. They will say it has it's downside, but will balance that against what they will do for law and order. Because that's what we need, a regime without the extreme nationalistic attributes, but with the guts to save our society from the refuse that is wrecking it. I will admit that if the BNP do get in one day, I may just resign myself to it.

I agree with PW that the BNP are looking a more attractive proposition even if it is just to see law and order upheld so that low life like this can be locked away for a long time.

I think you'll find it was that lunepot Thatcher and her cronies, with their 'FREE' society, that's dragged this country into the gutter. We now need some equilibrium, maybe a new Uncle Joe.

But the main problem is not the hooligan, (they are allowed to get a way with it all and they will if they can), partly the parents, partly the Government but mainly the British people.
We moan, (to whom?, our next door neighbour? our relatives? our friends?) anyone who won't or can't do anything about it, so, why don't we, as a country stand up and say "enough is enough !! we have to live in this country on estates with these criminals, yobs and good-for-nothings, we elected you, we want somethinbg doing about it"
But who of you have the guts to do it? oh, yes, fred does, john does, he does, she does, but they are just one on thier own in different places, and as we know, if one or a very minority complain they are ignored and laughed at. So, complain to the rignt people, stand up for yourself and tell those that actually make the laws that they are claiming wages under false pretences and you want the law to support the innocent victims, not the criminal and yob.

The solution is simple. Don't ever release people who have committed violent crimes. Keep them imprisoned forever. This might be expensive but as no rehabiltitation would be needed if there was no prospect of release the prisoners could be kept in the most basic condiditons which would keep cost down. A life in prison with no TV, no heating, no recreation, no decent food and no hope of release would also serve as deterrent to others.
We should use our prisons as a place we can put violent people and forget about them forever.

I cant imagine how this poor mans family (who was killed by him) must be feeling. Justice..absolutely not!!! Britain's justice system is disgraceful. It makes me feel ashamed to be british :-(

The UK is fast turning in to one giant council estate full of sub-working class vermin and no-one apart from us citizens gives a damn.
Of Denton, Tameside (21/11/2009 at 16:48)
This Government needs to start over-crowding the prisons, forcibly sterilising scum like this, and imprisoning his parents for failure to parent.
No-one gives a damn about protecting the public from vermin like this and if i was the family i would sue the Government and the Judge whom freed him to do this.
