Train luggage thief caught on CCTV

Police have issued CCTV images of a man they want to question about a number of thefts on trains on the West Coast Mainline between Carlisle and Crewe.

A LUGGAGE thief targeting train passengers across the region is thought to have struck at least eight times.

Now transport police have issued CCTV images of a man they want to question about a number of thefts on trains on the West Coast Mainline between Carlisle and Crewe, dating back to September 3. Laptops, clothes and suitcases have been stolen.

Det Insp Andrea Rainey said: "This man is systematically moving about the region and, whilst passengers are distracted, is helping himself to whatever he can find in the luggage and overhead racks."

The most recent thefts were on trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Stockport.

It will be great when he hits the buffers and gets sidelined, self loading freight is always vulnerable.

The picture will catch the little parasite. But I'm not so confident about the courts doing anything worthwhile when they get him.

Looks like He 'Choo Choose' the 'wrong line' of work and now he has definitely 'hit the buffers'. Lets hope he can get his life back on the 'tracks' because at the moment he is giving off all the wrong 'signals'. He should be given some kind of 'training' inside the nick and only then will he be able to lead a 'first class' existence.

Ive found it difficult to relax on a train journey for a while if I have a suitcase.Its not always possible to sit near your luggage and I have to be vigilant at every stop incase someone gets off with my case.Not long ago I was at Piccadilly station,with a child and cases when 2 women approached asking a lot of questions about whether I was going on holiday,whether I would be struggling to board the train with the case and a child.Their manner was such that I kept my hand on my bag.After I said I was just visiting family they lost interest and jumped on a different train after saying they were going to the same place as me.Is there anywhere left where you can relax and trust people wont steal your belongings.

The MEN this week looks more like an edition of Britains Dumbest criminals! The Bond style criminal mastermind really is a thing of fiction!

Mind you, there must be a criminal masterind out there somewhere because the criminals this week don't look like they could get out of their own front door without help.

In the old days the luggage racks where made up of rows of bars. Do they still have them type of racks? because if they do you can take a bike lock along and chain the case to the rack.

If they don't do the racks anymore maybe the railway need to rethink the luggage shelves and incorporate a safety bar for locking things down.

Silky Blue Moon. The problem would be other people having to get their case out from under mine if it was chained.Im off again soon and have decided to travel very light so I can keep my belongings beside me.
