Mouse droppings found in takeaway

Angor Miah, 42, of Briscoe Street, Oldham, owner of Chilli takeaway, pleaded guilty to the charges at the town's magistrates court.
THE owner of a mouse-infested takeaway has admitted breaching food hygiene regulations 14 times.

Angor Miah, 42, of Briscoe Street, Oldham, pleaded guilty to the charges at the town's magistrates court.

The court heard how environmental health officers first visited his takeaway, Chilli on Huddersfield Road, in December last year.

They found food was prepared on dirty chopping boards, mouse droppings were inside and on work surfaces and chefs were wearing dirty clothes.

The yard at the back was covered in rubbish and there were food spills which had not been cleaned up. There were also no soap or drying facilities at the washbasin.

Techincal error

Health officers ordered the takeaway to be shut down immediately. But the council told the court that due to a 'technical error' the owner of the takeaway wasn't given a copy of the emergency closure notice.

Saiqa Hussain, for the council, explained: "When she returned the next day a pest controller was on site and employees were scrubbing the premises. In 24 hours it had improved so much that officers felt the takeaway was no longer a risk and it was allowed to reopen."

But on August 28 environmental health officers carried out a spot-check on Chilli again and discovered the premises were unclean and equipment being used to prepare and store food was very dirty.

They also found food was again being prepared on dirty chopping boards and raw chicken being stored above cooked chicken.

Fokrul Islam, representing Mr Miah, said the takeaway had been inspected three hours into a busy shift and that any untidiness had to be looked at in the context of a working kitchen.

He said: "The defendant says there has been a big improvement in hygiene and he is very sorry for the state they found the kitchen in. It is not typical of the way he runs his business."

He added that Mr Miah had since brought in external training for employees.

Mr Miah will be sentenced on December 15.

I have to agree, too many of these establishments knocking around, cant get a decent fish anywhere but spoilt for choice on dropping ridden kebabs.

Why dont you take over the premises and turn it into an English chippy? Make a fortune.

Are the droppings included in the price of a kebab, or do they cost extra?

It's good to talk, Maybe he needs to tell the mice to go and dump somewhere else.

The Chippy.

That wonderful traditional English/British food emporium. It serves proper chips, proper gravy, proper steamed puddings, proper battered fish and even 'proper curry' ;-)

But where is the chippy when I'm famished at 1am? It is closed; it's lights dimmed, it's friers cooled, forlornly quiet on the high-street. It is out-numbered by a multitude of other fast-food alternatives - kebabs, burgers, pizzas, fried chicken - but no proper chips!

Oh, how I long for having proper chips 'n' gravy after a couple of mid-week social lubricators with my mates down the pub.

Are there no entrepreneurs who will pick up the gauntley?

Until then I guess I'll just have to settle for another shish-kebab on naan (extra chilli sauce, please).

So that is what got stuck in my teeth

He breached food and hygiene regulations 14 times ??????????????

I think alot of chip shops close early as they are worried about drunken people falling out of pubs and causing trouble, the kebab shops seem to be able to cope with them tho! Sometimes after a few pints all that will do is a greasy kebab or pizza to soak it up!!

I wonder if a mouse gets the same effect on the tongue and lips as we do when we eat hot raw chilies. I notice mice have an habit of licking their paws then rubbing their eyes,so they probably also end up with stinging eyes. The poor mice must go through hell in them there restaurants. If you ask for rice pudding and raisins for afters, and the raisins are hot, then it could be mouse dropping's from a mouse that ate chillies earlier.

The majority of voters requested Gordon Brown spice up our lives, Gordon as kept his promise, it's just that the owners being dirty isn't Gordon's fault. Anyway, Gordon has sent out a task force to deal with the scruffs.

Reading this sent a shudder through me no soap or drying facilities I dread to think what happened after they used the toilet, also they are now recieving external training on hygiene....basic hygiene is all that is needed, hygiene is not rocket science. How is it this take-away is still trading? Surely if health and safety rules have been breached then that should be enough to close the business down. It makes you wonder what these people live like at home I think a visit to their home would reveal more horrors, I wouldn't eat out of this place even if I had nothing to eat for a week.

There used to be the 'ye olde English chippy' on Parker st/portland st many moons ago, it was a 24hr chippy. Many a time in my youth after staggering back from the Cyprus tavern, did i 'pop in' for a chips, pudding, peas & gravy en route home. The food of champions!

why is this fool still trading with so many hygene issues, he should be banned for life for running or working with food in a public place. The council has a lot to answer for messing up the original banning order - pathetic.
