A MAN was shot four times - twice in each leg - in a horrific punishment-style attack.
The victim, in his 20s, was shot with bullets from a 9mm handgun at a house in Bury.
He was taken to hospital where his condition is not believed to be life threatening.
The incident happened yesterday in Vernon Street. Two men were seen fleeing in a car which was driven towards the A56 Walmersley Road.
Yesterday an alley behind the terraced house was sealed off by forensic experts.
One neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: "A lad came out of the house and collapsed and two girls found him and were screaming for an ambulance.
"He was put in the back of an ambulance and had a medical mask over his face."
Police said they had no indication of a motive for the shooting at this stage.
Shocking
The resident added: "I live alone as do a couple of my neighbours and we are all scared. This is shocking. No one deserves what happened to that young man.
"The police have got to do something to tackle gun crime. This is rare for Bury, which is why people are so frightened.
"Within a short space of time after the shooting the police horses were on the street. If people are using guns like this we need protection."
In recent months there has been a spate of firearms incidents in towns around central Manchester - while gun crime in the city has been successfully suppressed by police.
There have been fatal shootings in Eccles and Oldham, and three shootings in ten days in Salford last month.

But seriously, Manchester's not that bad, I come on these comments pages everyday and read aout how much people hate it around here, seriously, visit other cities in the UK, they're far worse. London, Birmingham, Reading, Glasgow etc. As far as rime goes, compared to the population, Manchester's relatively safe, and as for Comparing Bury to Compton? Have you actually seen compton? Whne I visit Bury, I don't see urban thugs rolling die in an alley way with a gun at their waist, or tattooed crak dealers driving around with shotguns, or hookers screaming abuse. All I see is nice houses, and doddering old people visiting the market.

Good point, I have been suprised that there has been nomention of the Moss Side is like The Wire/Baltimore story this week, following the work of two reporters who swapped cities to check if it was true.
Amazingly both agreed Moss Side was nothing like Baltimore, being far safer, with less crime, especially gun and drug related.
It seems news that isn't bad is not what people want to hear.
