ENVIRONMENTAL health officers seized a woman's stereo following persistent complaints about noise nuisance.
Karen Brown, of Grouse Street, Cronkeyshaw, Rochdale, was blasting slow dance music so loudly it was making ornaments in neighbouring homes bounce off furniture.
Rochdale magistrates issued a warrant on 14 October for the removal of noise-making equipment from Mrs Brown's home.
Environmental health officers stripped the house of its sound systems, including 2.5 ft speakers, a stereo, a large bass speaker and Sony ipod docking station. Mrs Brown will have to pay the seizure cost of £384.01 if she wants them back.
She has been warned further breaches could lead to further seizures or even prosecution if new equipment is bought.
Andy Glover, public protection manager at Rochdale council said: "Where we can, we will take action against inconsiderate perpetrators and bring relief to victims."

Why should she have them back?
It may be 33 yrs but it will never be 37yrs. (07/11/2009 at 12:55)
You condone this noisy woman I take it your neighbours are fed up of you and it won’t be long before we are reading of your inconsiderateness to your neighbours, unless you live in a out of the way place, like an island. It’s not a case of fascism it’s not a case of confiscation, her neighbour has the right to a quite life and if she was playing music at what seems an unreasonable level then she got what she deserved.
Persistent noise can bring on stress related illness where in extreme cases psychiatric treatment is needed, your flippant remarks should be treated with the contempt they deserve.

Difficult to believe that you two are adults, educated and have an intellect. Maybe I'm wrong on all counts.
You annoy the neighbours on a continual and continuous basis despite warnings to desist - that shows intent to disregard the comfort, peace and rights of others.
Of course she is going to lose the equipment used to make the noise. Pity she wasn't jailed for good measure.
Are you two REALLY adults? Do they let you vote?

She's had all the warnings for heaven's sake. The system has already bent over backwards for the silly woman. It's tough for her I know, but it's meant to be. Good for the Council.

Erm, I lived on the border of Moss Side & Fallowfield for three years, a woman with a loud stereo would be the least of my worries. But doing something about feral children running around everywhere, doing something about parents who couldn't give a damn; that is all very difficult so the council do nothing. Going into a house & stealing someone posessions is easy & it looks good in the press so let's do that instead shall we?
And yes I am an adult & I am allowed to vote. I would consider part of being an adult would be to make you're point without resorting to insults.

Sadly the way our current government draft legislation many things are now possible.
Chris Hunhe writing today tells us that allowed by the lax wording and lack of scrutiny of much recent legislation that the post office and trtansport for london are now able to sieze peoples property using laws passes to allow seizure of profits from crime.

It's nice to see a council which takes action, ours seems to have given up.

Marc ,
Apparently not given that a fair proportion of the posters here have resorted to personal imsults in lieu of reasoned opinion.
And yes, restriction of movement (by refusing to properly regulate fuel prices & public transport fares, also the congestion charge), total surveilance, ID cards, taking someone's new born child because you don't think the parent is 'intelligent' enough to have children (as Social Services in Fife are trying to do): all these are perfectly in line with facist policies. As is stripping people of their possesions, funding the banks whilst ignoring the ordinary man... you get the picture.

I know the feeling that you went through, as this as been happening to my wife and I for over 13 years, If you complain to this uncaring council with building traffic calming features, 24/7 all you hear is bump bump when vehicles speed over them, the vibratations, cracks appear in the walls They are there to slow traffic down this council say,but this council should try living with them, they are the biggest cowards I know, Its do as I say not wht we do.
We have suffered loud music from a neighbour who used to live in the flat above, and he had children, who used to jump of the furniture to the flool he diden't have carpets down just ties, and whem is friende called with their children, abour 6 kids would be jumping on the floor, I have had some arguements, which became hostile. I contacted the Manchester housing people about this, and having to slam the phone down, before I started to speak french swear words.
