A BULL had to be shot today after straying on to a motorway causing rush-hour traffic misery.
Just before 6am It broke through fencing in a field and went onto the M6 on the southbound carriageway, near Sandbach Services.
Both carriageways were closed while the owner of the animal was found and attempts were made to return the bull to a field. But the animal ran on to the northbound carriageway and the decision was made to destroy it.
The carriageway re-opened at 7.15am..

The Department of Transport (or whatever it is called this week) is responsible for fencing off the motorways because it built them across existing properties. Perhaps the fence was just not up to the job, had become neglected and insecure or some previous accident had made a hole in it.
