M-way chaos caused by man on bridge

COMMUTERS faced chaos on the M60 when police had to talk a man down off Barton Bridge.

Police were called at around 6pm following reports a 42-year-old man was standing on top of the bridge and threatening to jump.

This followed earlier reports that a man was seen walking along the hard shoulder of the M60.

Authorities closed off two lanes of the motorway heading north and have reduced speeds on the third carriageway for safety reasons.

Police negotiators had talked the man down by 8.50pm.

It was Simon Cowell, he re-tuned his TV for the Switch over and the twins was still in the competition, so he headed for Barton Bridge..

I have no sympathy with these attention seeking people, I doubt he would ever have jumped. If they want to jump so bad why can't they do it at 2 in the morning, instead of ruining everyone else's evening?

Not sure that reporting these stories is helpful to anyone.More likely to cause rubbernecking if anyone walking across a bridge stops to just look over.

I was driving the other way last night, and I saw him standing there. It's desperately sad that someone can be so desperate for help and attention to do this. I think many people who would go about it this way don't actually wish to kill themselves, but do it as a shout for help. If their minds were made up, they would do what Samantha suggests- they'd kill themselves in a way and a time where no-one could interfere or stop them. I hope he now gets the help he needs and wish him a better future.

This people should think before opening there mouths. There are plenty of depressed people who cannot help it when they feel so desperate and in a black hole. They are not doing it for attention at all they just want to end there lives. Its not selfish the people who write comments like that are more likely to be selfish.

Why does the MEN allow comments on sensitive stories like this? It only indulges the morons who clearly have nothing better to do with themselves than display their own crass insensitivity and lack of humanity.

I knew someone who jumped from Barton bridge. Outwardly there was nothing wrong with him, nobody knew what he was thinking at all when he jumped. I do hope I am never ever that desperate or depressed to do something like that - and so what if it caused a bit of a traffic jam?

It's easy to be sympathetic when you're sitting in your warm, cosy home, eating or looking forward to your meal and watching tv or doing whatever else you had planned for the evening. If, like me, you'd have had to sit in that traffic for all that time, you may not be as caring and may actually have preferred to help him on his way!

Sometimes all we need is a helping hand and I hope this guy gets that. For all those making nasty comments, you might be in that position one day and need a hand or it might be one of your loved ones that everyone is saying get on with it too.

Poor guy won't have much left of a life now the police have talked him down. They'll get him admitted to the nearest mental health unit from which he will emerge a medication-dependent zombie.

The man is in crisis right now. In two weeks whatever he is going through will be viewed differently. With or without medication.

I cannot believe how some inconsiderate so and so's can post comments MOANING about the inconvenience this caused them. I really can't. I'm ashamed to live near people like you. You are the kind of people who walk about looking down your nose at people, you are better than nobody. You are the kind of people who walk around your office(if you have a job...?) looking down your nose at people who you think you are better than. The ones that people resent for being so arrogant. One day you might feel as low as this poor man feels right now, the only difference being: I hope no one comes to help you!
