TWO jets packed with holidaymakers were forced to make emergency landings at Manchester Airport this morning.
The drama started when the 9.18am Thomas Cook flight from Glasgow to Tenerife was diverted to Manchester.
The second jet forced to divert to Manchester was also operated by Thomas Cook and had set off from Leeds/Bradford Airport at 10.20am bound for the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.
Both planes had landed safely by 10.35am and were met on the runway by a fleet of fire and emergency service crews.
Passengers were then escorted to the terminal and an airport spokesman said that nobody had been injured.
An investigation is now under way to determine the cause of the emergencies.

Old planes, never out of the sky...gonna happen to get max Profit, time bombs!!
I hope all the parents who had taken their children out of school during term time were promptly arrested!
Hmmmmmm two planes owned or operated by the same company forced to make emergency landings at roughly the same time? It would be an amazing coincidence if both had suffered mechanical problems at the same time. Maybe there's more to this than is being reported?
May it have something to do with the weather and not be as sinister as being made out. Remember last time when the headlines were all about a suspect chemical being found and it turned out to be hairspray.
Have flown with them for one round trip journey. NEVER again will I fly with them.
Aircraft past their sell by date. This problems will be coming more and more frequent.
I only hope it costs them a packet in landing fees.
It has been a long while since a plane crash: Maybe this is a sign telling us one is due.
The Right To Reply - how do you they are old planes never out of the sky?
Are you saying that Thomas Cooks are running their planes upto and beyond their air frame life span?
Proof please.
Planes land at airport... whatever next? Car drives on motorway?

Careless Whisper,
What a doomsday scenario you three paint; stop it as its scaring the kids. I agree with castlefieldres that these two incidents this morning are probably weather related.

Of all the alarmist, ridiculous comments I've read on here over the years, that is the best (or worst?) of the lot.
Take a bow, you've taken over reacting to a whole new level.
yea agree with castlefieldres on the weather. Either that or both pilots went out on the drink together and decided they were just too hungover to fly !!
Meh, beats Wayne Rooney is now a father as the headline.
I wish some of you will get real and stop painting rosy pictures of life: It is a fact of life that the odd plane tends to fall out of the sky sometimes against the pilots wishes. We will put our faith in these mechanical beasts and 40 odd tonnes flying through the air defies all the laws of physics and should not be happening. Old case scenario of if God wanted us to fly then he would of given us wings.
It doesn't matter how we go: Either in a plane crash or any other way-but one thing is fact. Owd grim reaper could just be waiting for you around the next corner.
I think it's got something to do with Aliens or the pryamids or the CIA.
I can't believe the alarmist comments on this site! Some of you have been reading the Daily Mail too much. Nothing sinister, just a coincidence that these two events happened on the same day. All were well dealt with by the professional crews and 'the system worked' so to speak.
Oh and MEN....that aircraft in the picture is not on the runway! It is on a stand by terminal two!
Careless Whisper - take it you dont like planes then.
But please note air travel is still one of the safest forms of travel.

If I was you I may consider just getting the whole thing over with.
I believe there's a place in Switzerland that can help.
Er Careless Whisper - a plane flying through the does not defy the laws of physics in fact it obeys the laws of physics via the theory of flight.
God did not intend us to fly - because there is no God
Careless whisper - er aircraft flying do do not defy the laws of physics in fact they obey the laws of physics which is why they fly ! God did not intend us to fly - because there is no god !

You are a very insensitive person and should hesitate and consider who you might be upsetting before you put your thoughts into print.
There are people who have lost loved ones in plane crashes and it is those who suffer the loss not those who have been lost.
I for one do not condone your type of submission to these pages and would appreciate it if you would refrain from this activity.
Not sure how "40 tonnes flying through the air" defies physics.....physics is the reason it does fly through the air.....more up force created than the weight pulling it down. Its not rocket science!
selfexiled: Not intending to offend. Please accept my apologies. By the way. I'm no physicist either-but it is hard to come to terms of the fact that 40 tonnes can fly through the air and not fall out of the sky.
But please note air travel is still one of the safest forms of travel.

Is it though? How many cars are there in the world ?
Far fewer planes. They have a poor record.
Careless Whisper, maybe you should have paid attention at school then instead of listening to George Michael on your Walkman in class. Make yourself a paper plane and see if it flies for a short while, then imagine some small engines on it propelling it even further... there you go, science at work.
