Man killed crossing motorway

A MAN has died after trying to cross the M61 motorway near Chorley. The pedestrian was fatally injured after being struck by a lorry on the southbound carriageway at 6.30am on Sunday.

Lancashire Police said they did not yet had details about the victim or his motives.

The southbound road was closed between junctions six and eight, while investigators looked for evidence. Drivers who witnessed the crash are urged to contact police on 01772 614 4444.

Jaywalking is an informal term used to refer to illegal or reckless pedestrian crossing of a roadway, ergo the person crossing the motorway wasn't a pedestrian but a jaywalker

Tragic but my sympathty goes to the truck driver, you can be sure he will never forget it and will have to live with that thought even though the pedestrian was where they should'nt have been.

Sympathy to the HGV driver.. Why should someone want to walk across a motorway? The pedestrian must have known the risks! The area in question is unlit and very close to Bolton West Services. To make things easier, there's ever a bridge that links the northbound to the southbound..

Nuff said before I place my size 9's in it!
