MANCHESTERONLINE has been shortlisted for the Website of the Year category of the Regional Press Awards 2004.

This website, which attracts more than 7M page impressions every month, is up against a shortlist which also includes This is London and the BBC in Bristol.

The Regional Press Awards is the annual celebration of the best in journalism around the country. It acknowledges the achievements of journalists and editors on weekly, daily and Sunday newspapers across the country as well as webites.

The Manchester Evening News has also been shortlisted in three categories.

Reporter Rebecca Camber has been shortlisted in the Young Journalist of the Year category.

The M.E.N sports team have been nominated in the Team of the Year category for their Bye-Bye Becks supplement.

And the newspaper is also up for the Scoop of the Year award for Policeman Puts Boot In. The story revealed how a police officer was caught on CCTV kicking an arrested man while he was held down on the pavement by other officers in Manchester city centre.

The awards, now in their seventeenth year, will be held at Manchester United's stadium at Old Trafford on July 9. Local journalist and radio personality Stuart Hall will host the event.
