Mancunian Way to shut for the weekend

THE Mancunian Way will be shut in both directions for maintenance work this weekend.

The closure, to the A57M south of the city centre, takes place between 6am and 6pm on both Saturday and Sunday.

A diversion will be in operation along Fairfield Street, Whitworth Street, Whitworth Street West, the Bridgewater viaduct and Chester Road.

I just hope that all the roads around the Tory conference will be reopened by tomorrow otherwise it will be bedlam. Whitworth Street West gridlocks every time the Mancunian Way closes. Its not helped by illegal parking by the black cabs there.

What I'd like to know is why, every time they close the Manc. way, they close the slip road of the Chester Road roundabout towards Regent Road ? Especially as they leave the one going the other way open. It just seems completely unnecessary, as I've never seen any works going on between the slip and the Water St junction, which is the only bit affected. It also means all the traffic for the M602 has to head down towards White City and up Trafford Road, jamming that all up.

It won't affect anyones travel plans, seeing as everyone seems to prefer driving down Cross Street and Deansgate...

What the heck is it this time, and why wasn't it fixed the last time they shut the Mancunian Way?! Must be the third time this year!

No joke, this is getting so common that at work we now have a unwritten policy that if anyone spots a sign advising that the Mancunian Way is going to be shut, they call in and let everyone else know; this is because we operate 24/7, are often involved in time-critical processes, and people have been caught out and stuck in the gridlock these closures create.

I have also noticed that bit about certain slip-roads being shut for no apparent reason, you'd think under the circumstances they would try and squeeze as much capacity out of the unaffected routes as possible, but that would be too sensible i suppose.

Is the Mancunian way becoming like the Forth Rd Bridge.
When they have finished maintaining at the end they start back at the beginning.
Looks like typical sub standard Rd maintaining as usual.

Some might say this is part of a last-minute plan to try and scupper the planned EDL & UAF protests in Town this weekend....particularly those that attend council meetings quite regularly, if you know what I mean!

When the council decide to close the Mancunian way, why don't they think about giving more time at the traffic lights in the diversion route, (i.e) Brunswick St/Upper Brook St, where it lets two car through every time the lights go green, and Royce Rd/Stretford Rd Junction, the council close it and they are off home outside Manchester till Monday, don't care about folk that live here and need these roads, and the rugby fans....

am I the only one that is thinking al this is a certain council leader 'getting his own back' after being told where to stick his congestion charge?? Seems to have got worse since the referendum....

Yesterday was a joke! We came in from Warrington and had to queue to get to the car park in the old Great Northern building. Later we then queued for over an hour to get out of the car park!!!! Incredible!! How incompetent is that on someone's part? We had toyed between shopping in Mamchester or going to the new Liverpool One - which is excellent. From now on it's no contest for weekend shopping - Liverpool here we come!

Since this massive roundabout at the manc way was finished its been a congestion nightmare.ifact comming off chester road and try and get on the manc way is terrible i had to do a UTURN and comeback on myself to get on the manc way .badly designed roadways we have in manchester.
