EDUCATION chiefs in Rochdale hope to entice maturer learners back into the classroom, library and sports hall by showcasing the breadth of education opportunities as part of Adult Learners' Week.

Beginning with a Carnival Of Learning in the town centre on Saturday, council advisers are planning to offer would-be learners all the information they are likely to need to take advantage of courses across the borough.

In addition, the council is planning a series of open days and learning events at the borough's colleges.

Learning At Work events will also be staged to show people how best to boost their skills without leaving work.

Silver Surfer days will be arranged for the over-50s at libraries.

There will be opportunities to sample activities as diverse as embroidery and drumming, and for sports fans there will be events showcasing the activities available.
