IT is a venture that would have schoolboys in fits of giggles - but a band of girl pupils is turning silk panties and thongs into an award-winning business.
Designed by the students at Withington Girls' School, Manchester, they have been so popular that teachers as well as pupils are queueing up to buy knickers, panties, vest tops and thongs featuring Hollywood icons Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn.
The garments produced by their company, Flirt, have been snapped up by a boutique in Wilmslow. A lingerie shop in Manchester's Arndale Centre is also considering selling them.
Shares
The company was born last September and raised '300 by selling shares to pupils and their parents.
The new company - the work of 18 business students aged between 15 and 19, with 17-year-olds Abby Schlageter and Priyanca Mehta as joint managing directors - has been named "best overall company" in Greater Manchester by Young Enterprise, a national education charity.
One of their teachers, Cherry Jackson, said: "I think it's brilliant. They were spectacular. They did everything to the last detail. It was just so professional."
Dominique Finnegan-Parsons, 17, from Bowdon, the company's marketing director, said: "It's been really popular. The girls really like the products. They are nice, young, fashionable, fresh and funky."
