ARSONISTS have destroyed more than two decades years of history at a football club house.
They set fire to a wheelie bin close to the Salford City FC building and the blaze quickly spread, gutting the club house.
The fire has destroyed photos and memorabilia that hung on walls commemorating the club's history.
Darren Quick, club chairman, said they were devastated. "It's been a good little club house for 20 years," he said.
"It's a real shame because it was painted and refurbished by volunteers at the start of the season.
"I've no idea what we're going to do yet. I can't believe it, all the pictures and memorabilia over 20 years have gone up.
"We've not had a problem here for as long as I can remember, it's very sad."
Fire crews spent two hours tackling the fire at the Moor Lane ground.
Watch commander Neil Constantine said: "It was discovered that the fire was started deliberately in a wheelie bin that was close up to the building and quickly spread to the structure.
"Crews spent two hours at the scene. Police were requested and attended the incident.
"Wheelie bin fires are a national problem, they burn ferociously and flames can reach heights of several metres.
"I can not emphasise enough the importance of storing wheelie bins away from buildings and not to put out the bins too early and to take them in a soon as they have been emptied."

That wouldn't have helped on this occasion though would it? These mindless rats would have just moved them closer to the building before lighting them. SCUM!!!!

I hope these arsonists are proud with themselves to many many other law abiding citizens they need to feel ashamed. A similar thing has happened several times to another local football club Abbey Hey in Gorton who were also came from the same league both well established clubs but both struggling financially like a lot of clubs are at the grass roots of the game.
To be honest the thing that will hurt Salford more is the memorbillia that has been lost the money side of it is irrevilent.
I sincerely hope Salford City can overcome this massive and sad blow and recover some part of their great history.

These scumbags are only very sad creatures, yet they even have the ineffectual authorities over a barrell. They wouldn't do much to them when they catch them. Time to rein in some of the rights of the criminals, and build more prisons to accommodate longer sentences. The overriding beneficial effect will be to keep them away from ordinary people for longer, and some might start to think it's not worth it. The Government don't seem to realise that these plentiful miscreants are far more prevalent and effective than their "pet targets" the terrorists. This big mistake must be losing them a lot of support on its own. No wonder they're losing the election next year.
