A ROBBER stole rings from a 91-year-old woman's fingers as she lay in bed.

The thief smashed into the pensioner's house on Withington Road, Chorlton, before confronting her in her bedroom.

 He demanded money and jewellery before forcibly removing three rings from her fingers.

As the raider left the bedroom he was grabbed by the woman's son but punched him and managed to escape.

 The thief ran off along Withington Road and police are appealing to anyone who saw him to contact them.

The offender was white, in his late 30s, 6ft 4in, bald and of heavy build. He wore a light-coloured T-shirt and light-coloured pants.

Det Con Laura Burgess said: "Words could not describe the type of person who would do something like this.

"I am keen to hear from anyone that may have seen the offender running away from the house. This man preyed on a vulnerable woman and stole the rings from her fingers."

A 44 -year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and has been bailed until November pending further inquiries.
