Tevez poster set for an award

Manchester United fans were up in arms over the poster of Tevez welcoming him to Manchester City

THE cheeky Carlos Tevez poster that sparked a furious row has been nominated for an award.

Temperatures between City and United were turned up a notch after the billboard ad went up on Deansgate in the city centre. It pictured the Argentina striker, who snubbed the Reds to sign for Manchester City, above the slogan `Welcome To Manchester.'

The ad, commissioned by the Eastlands club, was a clear dig at their counterparts whose Old Trafford ground lies outside the city boundaries.

Hailed as a masterstroke by PR experts the poster even caught the eye of United gaffer Sir Alex Ferguson who reacted angrily and launched a scathing attack on the Blues.

And now the ad has been nominated for a PR gong.

The 'Buzz Awards' celebrate 'the best brand media integrated campaigns that catch fire.'

Judges are looking for `branding efforts that invade the pop culture consciousness.'

City's effort received over 200 votes after being nominated. The winners will be announced on 22 September.

at least, should it actually win the prize, they'll have somewhere to keep the award. plenty of space in the trophy room. if they can find the key first, and fight their way through the bananas and balloons. maybe they can do a lap of honour with it before the next home match, then they'll feel like a really MASSIVE and successful club.

Well Well Well, Manchester Evening News. You have changed the wording on your article as not to offend the city faithfull have you?! Thats pretty poor, you have removed the previous sentence "the Argentina striker, who snubbed the Reds to sign for bitter blue rivals" to "the Argentina striker, who snubbed the Reds to sign for Manchester City"

This poster is the out and out definition of 'Job done!' it achieved exactly what it was supposed to - we'll be getting some valuable mileage out of this one for years!!!

No problem, the liars are welcome to it, can they polish the award I wonder? Might give Beryl the cleaner down at Wastelands some gainful employment, does brasso have a use-by date?

We'll stick to winning cups,trophies, etc for finishing first, top and competing on all fronts and basically sticking the ball in the onion bag regularly, kinda sort of thing - you know where I'm coming from bitters?

Just for a moment i thought i had strayed accidentally onto the MEN dark side forum my god! it's full of rags on this page. I think the poster succeeded in setting out what was intended and that was to wind all you reds up. Even old Baconface could'nt resist making a comment. Whoever thought up the poster should be given the freedom of Manchester hilarious bloody hilarious! Even nuetral fans and a normally anti City media gave it the thumbs up. All you rags need to aquire a sense of humour and some humility but don't think that will ever happen. It's at times like this that i am so glad and proud to be a Blue!

Of course it should win the award. The reaction to this poster has been massive and it has been discussed nationwide. I can't understand why Bacon Face and all the reds are so upset - Tevez is a City player and the intent is to welcome visitors to our great City of Manchester, the home of M.C.F.C.
If I was a red sheep, I would be proud to see a poster of Owen, welcoming visitors to Trafford. Reds shouldn't be embarrased that they're not a Manchester club, Trafford isn't that bad is it?
