A CONVICTED murderer who failed to return to an open prison is being hunted by police.
William Reddican, 56, was convicted of murder at Manchester Crown Court in May 1982 and jailed for life.
Reddican, whose last known address was in Stretford, Manchester, was later released on licence from the sentence but was subsequently convicted of assault at Trafford magistrates court and returned to prison.
Police in Derbyshire have confirmed that he failed to return to HMP Sudbury on Saturday after a 'period of temporary leave'.
It is understood he was working in the community under supervision.
Reddican is described as white, 5ft 10in, of medium build with short, receding brown hair and green eyes.
He speaks with a Manchester accent and has several scars.

This is simply how the system works. They are not simply given a place in an open conditions and then every one hopes for the best. People make decisions and do things that they are not supposed to do for a variety of reasons...such as go on the run. He would have been deemed suitable for tempory release etc and has simply chosen not to respond to the trust placed in him
