A TWELVE year old boy was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries after being hit by a car in Leigh last night. The youngster was crossing Warrington Road at its junction Hope Carr Lane around 5.35pm when the accident involving a Ford Ka happened.

He is currently undergoing treatment for a fractured skull, and his condition today was described as serious, but stable.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw what happened to come forward. PC Stephen Poulter said: "It was rush hour and there would have been a lot of people on the road. We would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact us."
