Greater Manchester's chief constable said he was 'disappointed' by a recent spate of shootings and admitted the police would never completely stamp out gun crime.
In an interview with Channel M he said: "What we are seeing is a number of incidents recently.
"We're obviously very disappointed by that. We never thought we would completely eliminate the use of guns.
"We have seen a reduction in murders in the last year. We are working very hard to get to the bottom of this."
He said the term Gunchester only served to glamorise gun crime and he stressed that the shootings were not 'about random members of the public being shot' but involved the criminal underworld.
He added: "It is not about members of the public being shot on the street. It's an extension of criminal association. We have the latest techniques for breaking up these criminal associations which removes the disputes. Understandably, residents are worried but the level of serious violence is very low."

Angie this has nothing to do with television as you have suggested. Also guns are never glamourised in any form. Each person who takes possession of an illegal firearm knows its purpose and is prepared to use it. Don't hide away from the reality of this fact.
Guns settle scores in manchester. It is not a novelty item - it is a "must have" if you are involved in criminality associated with drugs and extortion.
The only way to fight gun culture is head on and if anyone is found in possession of a firearm either on them or on their property then they should get an automatic 10 year no parole sentence. Not a typical 5 year sentence where they are released on licence in 2 years of a 5 year sentence.

The "Gunchester" phrase is one we can do without... it is used by adolescent males desperate to find where they sit in the "pecking" order, those with an inferiority complex who need to cling to the bosom of a gang for a desperately sought identity.
The real players in the City - the Cops and the proper villains don't use this "trite" phrase.

""Even last night on Eastenders,Phil Mitchell threatened his mothers husband by dropping a bullet into his glass"".
It's not real, you know! Eastenders is only pretend !

The city never came out of the gunchester culture, in fact its only got worse.
Open your eyes and ears and start policing ...properly.

I would like to point out that shooting “incidents” have not reduced dramatically in Manchester in the past year, all that has happened is GMP no longer list such incidents as gang related. This in result reduces there misleading statistics.
Please look the next time a shooting happens or they find bullet casing on the roads.
It will give some rubbish like police are exploring possible causes and/or police do not think this is gang related. Who else but these people shoot at one another?
I wish GMP spent as much time catching criminals and policing our streets as they do on publicity stunts!

Yet with the Salford shopkeeper killing and the shooting in Chadderton it was said they were cases of mistaken identity.
Seems as if hes now solved the motives for the crime, just have to find who dunnit. Or wait for them to be shot by someone else.
Laughable that this man is in charge. Mind you, with Labour in charge of the country, what do I expect?
