Two men wearing balaclavas raided his Sale home in the early hours of Sunday morning.
They demanded cash and jewellery from the 17-year-old Italian striker, and hit his friend over the head with a bottle. He needed hospital treatment for minor cuts.
Macheda, nicknamed Kiko, was not injured in the brutal raid but it is thought the footballer, who scored vital goals to help United retain the Premiership last season, had a watch worth £20,000 and other personal items stolen.
Police say they are investigating whether the robbers were armed with knives. A police spokesman said: "Police were called to an address in Sale around 3.40am on Sunday following reports of a robbery.
"Two men stole cash and jewellery from the victims before running out of the house.
"One man suffered a minor cut to his head in the robbery. Inquiries are ongoing."
Reports suggest Macheda had been partying at the exclusive Circle Bar in Manchester city centre on Saturday night and had a heated row with a group of men.
Macheda and his pal took a taxi home but later the two masked men smashed their way into his home. His father, Pasquale, was later seen padlocking the gates of their house but did not want to comment on the robbery.
Earlier this year masked robbers held a knife to the throat of Manchester United star Darren Fletcher's fiancee, as the player flew to Italy for a Champions League match.
Three men kicked down the front door of the £1m house in Bowdon and subjected Hayley Grice to a terrifying and violent ordeal while two her children slept upstairs. They escaped with jewellery and other valuables.
A gang of robbers also targeted new Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz, who lives near Fletcher, in December.
Several Premiership footballers, particularly Liverpool players, have been robbed or burgled while playing abroad in recent years. Fletcher was the first United victim.
Macheda, who signed from Lazio, scored two super sub goals against Aston Villa and Sunderland last season. He turns 18 next month and is due to fly off to the Far East with the United team for pre-season friendlies.

No wonder Ribery doesn't want to come.

Here everybody cuts you up on the roads, you remonstrate slightly by throwing your hands up and you get viscious tirades from a complete stranger. In town on Saturday there was litter everywhere, the usual skinheaded lokk-at-me-I'm-hard merchants strutting about, beggars everywhere, a couple of fights on Saturday night, women with hardly anything on swearing like troopees and puking in the gutters. What a hole we live in.
Why doesn't anybody have any pride in their city?

How can we reduce under age drinking when a youth such as this who is in the public arena goes out to clubs where to drink and party you have to be 18 minimum?
As a football player he’s a role model for youngsters who believe football is the only sport on TV so what kind of a message does this send out to them?
At the next application for renewal of the Circle Bars licence this should be brought to the attention of the deciding magistrates and consideration be given to revoking the licence. And as for this youth he should be disciplined for bringing the game into disrepute.
Interesting isn’t it, respected and hard working police man drinks and drives and the MEN is out for blood, footballer enters a night club underage and the MEN is almost asking for a sympathy vote.

I know people who scrimp and save to afford a season ticket and then you have a lad barely out of school with a £17k watch. They have all the trappings of success before they have actualy done anything. Fans must be mugs.

It is a violent world we live in I'm afraid and the trash talking City / United stuff on here is'nt helpful or unique. People are desperate for money, houses being re-po'd, massive debts, broken marriages, relationships, behind on the mortgage, bills, maintenance cheques. If a wrong doer manages to steal his £17k watch and pawns it for £10k then it represents a good piece of business (to the villain). The person whi is robbed, gets the police record incident number and submits a claim. We all move on, we all face increased insurance and the villain gets away. Much easier for the police to nick someone for litter / speeding than violent crime because "Target Tony" (Blair) insited we have resolution quotas as opposed to tackling real crime so the emphasis is on numbers solved as opposed to real problems.
