A MAN has waited more than three months to find out whether a lump on his leg is cancerous - due to a series of blunders.
Vinny Breeze went to see his GP after finding the lump and was referred for a scan.
When the 44-year-old postman, from Sale, had not received an appointment a week later, he says he returned to RK Medical Centre, in Baguley, but was told to wait another few weeks.
But a month later, he claims to have found that doctors had mistakenly booked a scan for his father, who is also a patient at the practice and has the same name.
Mr Breeze then had to wait until Saturday for a new appointment.
But when he got to the mobile health unit, he says he was told doctors had booked a scan on his back and they were not able to scan his leg.
Stressful
New government guidelines mean patients should have scans AND start treatment within 18 weeks of seeing a GP.
Mr Breeze, whose mother died of cancer aged 47, has now been promised an urgent scan later this week.
He said: "I can't believe 14 weeks after I first went to the doctor I am still waiting to find out whether this lump is cancer.
"It has been so stressful. I have been in to complain to the doctor and I have told him I believe my lump has grown."
The mobile scanning unit only comes to Withington Hospital once every four to five weeks.
Technicians can only carry out scans according to instructions they receive from doctors and the equipment has to be set up specifically for whichever part of the body is being scanned.
Mr Breeze has now been given an appointment at Withington for a scan on Thursday evening.
A spokeswoman for the GP practice said she was unable to comment because of patient confidentiality.

When she asked at the Surgery they said a mistake had been made and she would be getting an appointment for Withington Hospital, a slight difference in milage.
