A PENSIONER was knocked to the floor with a mop handle as he walked home from the shops.
The 67-year-old was confronted near Tameside Children's Centre, in Hattersley, by three youths.
They demanded money before he was struck. A passer-by intervened and the youths fled.
The pensioner suffered bruising in the attack, which happened at 6.50am on Friday. Nothing was stolen.
Det Con Lisa Devitt, of Tameside volume crime team, said: "These thugs preyed on a vulnerable victim and I appeal to all on the estate to assist the police in bringing them to justice. I want to appeal to anyone at the shopping arcade at that time in the morning to get in touch if they remember seeing these lads or have information that can assist."
Anyone with information is asked to call Hyde volume crime team on 0161 856 9260 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

No the bleeding heart liberals keep making excuses for this type of scum by making laws to protect them and not making laws to protect the victims how many more years and victims do we have to have before something is done.get out of the pc/human rights laws and let us bring back the birch/corporal/capitol punishments that used to protect the innocent and elders from scum like these instead of sending them on holidays and putting a bit of electronics on their ankles while they doss at home playing tv games this isnt any deterent.
