MANCHESTER United star Paul Scholes and his former team mate Carlos Tevez have paid the penalty for ignoring procedures after committing minor traffic offences.
Both the footballers have been given tough sentences after magistrates were unimpressed with their failure to respond to legal notices.
Cameras
The pair were caught on speed cameras, but then they failed to produce their documents at a police station when were instructed to.
They then both failed to turn up after being summonsed to appear in court. Former-England midfielder Scholes, 34, was caught on a speed camera doing 41 mph in a 30mph zone in his Audi S8.
Documents
The incident happened on November 1 last year in Manchester Road, Oldham, near the junction with Drury Lane.
Scholes was issued with a Notification of Intention to Prosecute and given until March 4 this year to produce his identification documents.
He failed to do so and was summonsed to appear at Tameside Magistrates' Court last week, but he failed to appear and was dealt with in his absence.
Scholes was fined £525 for failing to provide driver identification documents, plus £60 costs and a £15 court fee. He also received six penalty points. The tough sentence was imposed due to his failure to respond to either the notice or the summons.
Speeding
Argentine international star Tevez, 25, was caught speeding on the A34 in Cheadle in February and also failed to respond to a Notification of Intention to Prosecute. He was also fined £525 for failing to provide his documents, plus £60 costs and a £15 court fee in a case heard in his absence in the same court. He too was given six penalty points.
Licence
Earlier this year, Tevez had his £140,000 Bentley seized after it was found he did not have a full driving licence. A spokesman for Manchester United said Scholes had been unaware of the court proceedings and said the player did not wish to comment. Tevez has now left United after he turned down a new contract which would have made him one of the club's best-paid players. His advisers are negotiating a £25m deal to transfer him to another Premiership club, with Manchester City among the contenders for his services.

Maybe a review is needed, but our incompetent government isn't likely to do anything sensible.

Not as funny as you replacing Ronaldo & Tevez with Michael Owen & a Wigan winger. That is funny.

As a world renowned Manchester United player, Scholes has helped put
Manchester on the map, he's an embassador for peace, friendship and good
sportsmanship (providing we can overlook his occassional reckless tackles)
and so the Mayor of M/C, the Queen, Bobby Charlton and U2, all need to
gather for a weekend of strategizing on how best to let off Scholesy
and to give him some kind of award of merit for his substantial contribution to making football fans all over the world that bit happier.
(Tevez should be jailed cos he broke the law)

As one of the last few opportunities you'll have this season to have a dig, I'll let you have that one! Just remember, 12 games in, post again with your incomparable wit!

Small change in his pocket!!!! what about real fines. He probably thought the money he could make doing other things would outweigh his fine

The irony of using "CITEH" as a way to mock the Mancunian accent is totally lost on these rags..
