A NIGHTCLUB has been asked to keep the noise down following complaints from neighbours.

Bijou, in Chapel Street, Manchester, has introduced a sound limit after a council warning.

Complaints
Salford council, which is responsible for that part of the city, sent environmental health officers out after receiving complaints from people living near the Cathedral end of Deansgate.

Among those complaining was Chetham's School of Music.

Nuisance
It is understood that late night music from the club had become a nuisance for pupils who live at the specialist boarding school.

Environmental health officers are now monitoring the volume of music being played at Bijou.

Limit
The club's manager said they were working with the council and had already taken action to reduce noise levels by installing a limit on their sound system.

He said the club had not received any direct complaints from the public.

'Monitoring'
Salford council's Coun Joe Murphy said: "We have not yet received any requests from members of the public for the night club's alcohol licence to be reviewed.

"However, we have had a number of complaints from residents about loud music and have issued the night club with a notice to keep the level of noise down and we will be monitoring the situation."

'Volume'
Bijou manager Marc Bennion said: "We've been working with the council and done everything we can to reduce the noise considerably.

"A sound engineer fitted a limit on the system so that DJs can't play music above a certain volume."
