MCDONALD'S, whose customers were once named the worst in Britain for dropping burger wrappers, has launched a scheme to tidy the streets of Manchester.
It has a full-time member of staff to clean streets of litter - no matter where it has come from.
Lucasz Lasko, 24, started working for McDonald's eight months ago and now spends 25 hours a week in the city centre clearing up rubbish. His three-mile `beat' takes him along Oxford Road onto Deansgate, round the M.E.N Arena and along Princess Street to McDonald's on Oxford Street.
Lucasz, who lives in the city centre, has walked 390 miles, collecting 180 bags of rubbish since he started the in January.
He said: "I love Manchester and I don't like it being messy. Someone's got to do it and I don't mind it being me."
McDonald's decision to pilot the scheme in Manchester came after a Keep Britain Tidy survey showed their outlets were responsible for the largest amounts of fast food rubbish on Britain's streets - 29 per cent.
Other culprits included Greggs, 18pc, and Subway 5pc.
