A BAR owner has caused outrage by bringing- lap dancing to a well-heeled Cheshire town.
One opponent said: "I hope they go bust."
Pete Tapper is opening ST Lounge next month on Wilmslow's main shopping street.
It has a licence to open until the early hours and will feature 'high-class' striptease, according to the club boss.
Mr Tapper promises to attract an 'upmarket' and well-behaved clientele to the Grove Street bar - but says he is not surprised his plans face opposition. Mr Tapper, who runs another lap dancing club in Stoke-on-Trent called ST1, said: "I know this will generate a lot of interest, both positive and negative. But people have nothing to fear.
"It will be of interest to customers but also to what I call the 'blue rinse brigade' and I imagine I will come up against some opposition in Wilmslow.
"It will be a full-time lap dancing club but will not cause disruption in the area."
Mr Tapper claimed that lap dancing is not seedy and that his club will be a 'glamorous' venue in a town that is a favourite haunt of Premier League footballers and WAGS.
Glamorous
He added: "The perception is a lot worse than the reality. We will attract the higher end of the market, a more mature customer, with a glamorous image. It will be a gentlemen's club and champagne bar.
"We are professional, with a lot of experience and are very strict for the girls' protection and for the surrounding area. The customers are very discreet."
But opponents of the bar say it is 'inappropriate' and seedy.
Coun Frank Keegan said: "It is quite appalling to have this in the centre of Wilmslow, which is a family town. It is totally inappropriate.
"The proprietors say it will cater for a more mature customer - by that I take it they mean dirty old men.
"Maybe there will be a run on macs in the local shops.
"Hopefully, it will go bust, it won't attract customers and will wither on the vine."

Is this the same Wilmslow which is half millionaires and half very rough council estate?
What is the betting that almost everyone with a negative opinion will be over 50, male, and probably secretly wishing 'I wish they had that in my day'?

I personally think anyone who frequents such places should try a little harder on their personalities then they might be able to get a proper girlfriend!

Remember all the furore about "sex shops" back in the 70s?

I'm extremely intrigued by the 'high-class striptease' statement though. Does it mean they're wearing Jimmy Choos instead of Primark shoes?

As Orb says, not my cup of tea - I have the current Mrs Fluff to entertain me with her 'pole' dancing. I fear she doesn't really understand the concept as there isn't a piece of floor-to-ceiling pipework to be seen in her act - just a medium salami, a family size jar of saurkraut and a funny costume with button-up boots! She's a fool.
I wonder myself why the people of Wilmslow have a bob on themselves. I suspect it's the grossly inflated price they pay for their rather run of the mill property in a rather ordinary suburb of Manchester.
Carry on. Open more I say.
