TEN chickens were rescued by firefighters after a blaze broke out near their coop.
The fowl were carried to safety after the fire started in a car and spread to nearby stables.
Up to 20 firefighters were called to the blaze at about 11.10pm at Darwen and Dimple Hall, on Cox Green Road, in Egerton, near Bolton, on Tuesday.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "The fire was brought under control by fire crews using jets and hose reels, while wearing breathing apparatus. Ten chickens were rescued from an adjoining coop."
