DETECTIVES hunting a brutal sex attacker have released an efit of a man they want to question.
A woman was raped as she walked past Grand Central Pools, near Stockport train station, on Saturday (May 23) at 10.10pm.
The terrified victim was grabbed from behind and pulled into the bushes where the rape took place.
After eventually fighting off her attacker she ran to the train station for help. It is believed the man escaped towards the A6.
Police described the attacker as white, possibly eastern European, aged in his late 30s to early 40s, with unkempt dark brown hair and stubble. He wore a grey coarse woolly jumper and jeans.
Detective Constable Claire Beach, from Stockport Rape Investigation Unit, said: "The victim was subjected to a truly terrible ordeal.
"Grand Central is incredibly busy area - it's the main route to the train station, on foot and by car, and very close to the pubs so I am certain there were plenty of people around.
"The attacker might have been waiting around beforehand or seen running away after. If anyone does think they know the man in the efit, please call us. I'd also like to remind women to take precautions for their own safety."
Anyone with information can contact Stockport Police on (0161) 856 9680 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

This poor woman will be emotionally scarred as a direct result of this most devastating attack.
And she will have recurring nightmares about this attack for the rest of her natural born life.
And this poor woman will have to attend counseling session in order to deal with this most turbulent aftermath.
This most brutal attack will most certainly affect this poor woman both physically and mentally.
This man is nothing more than a depraved animal to say the least.
And even an animal would have more profound respect than this man.
Doesn't this man have any shame at all?
Doesn't he have any kind of remorse at all for what he has done?
How many more woman are going to be brutally attacked before this perp is actually caught?
The police better find this man and apprehend him before he begins to inflict serious bodily damage to someone else.
Rape does injury to justice and charity.
Rape deeply wounds the respect, freedom and physical and moral integrity to which every person has a right.
It causes grave damage that can mark the victim for life.
It is always an intrinsically evil act.
The police need to catch this man and he needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law possible.
